Title: The Days experiment...
Post by: creedo on May 27, 2004, 10:12 PM
Ever see people with really sick stats?  Like 89% win rate, or near 400 average hit?
Did you automatically assume "botter", if you're aware of botting etc?  I always did.

Later as I leveled up and got more and more pros added to my buddy list, I noticed a few of them had sick stats, but also just played really well.  I generally expect a botter to be crappy, or merely decent,  and I asked my buddies about their account.  It seems some of them have managed to keep 70-80% win rates on their first account, and others with second accounts have even better win rates and a very high average hit.

These are guys who never just play vs buddies, or 1v1 vs low ranks all day, or abuse avatar on zones with superior equipment... they play 4v4 and 3v3 games, they stick to zone 11 and 12, and they don't refuse to play vs good players.

Anyway some of those people formed a guild consisting entirely of 2nd account mobiles called 'Days'.  You might have seen them, it's easy to remember when you've seen one because they have similar names like 'itsafineday' ...
'itsarainyday' 'itsasuperday' etc.  Since one of the original guild creators is a buddy, I decided to try to get into the guild... but he told me there are requirements:   70%+ win rate, 300+ average hit.

I was pretty much like " -.- " ...I don't have anywhere near those stats on my first account, and my second account barely has the win rate but not the hit.   I figured I'd never be able to manage that, but I decided I'd give it a try.

To make this boring story short, I had no problem (http://media.virtuafighter.com/media/gb/2ndacct.jpg) pulling it off, and after 150 games or so my stats are still there... my win rate dropped 2% but I can attribute at least 3 of my losses to lagouts.  My average hit has gone up since the screenshot to 340 or so.  I guess the point I wanted to make is:

It IS possible to have a really good win rate and nice hit in gunbound if you simply TRY hard enough and have already played your mobile to a point where you almost completely understand it.  My strategy for the days experiment was to play exclusively boomer, because I know boomer is very good for average hit.  Before this account, I only fucked around with boomer a bit and my boomer win rate was like ... 59-60%.  But if you play seriously enough, take the highest percentage shot possible, and basically dual on every single sure shot (even if it's overkill) you can get a pretty scary looking info screen... my win rate improved by ~20 percent and my avg hit went up by over 100.

I encourage others out there to try this experiment... not necessarily trying to get into the same guild, but just make a new account, pick a mobile, stick to ONE bot and one bot only (make sure it's a bot that can actually win, and is strong and useful), and just play the bejeezus out of it.  You'll also need to find a strong group of buddies if you play 4v4, and refuse to play without at least 1 or 2 friends backing you up (you can't get a high win rate relying on total strangers, even high ranked ones).  Play as smart as you can, taking the highest percentage shot possible and making sure you don't commit to duals when you're not sure on the hit (because if a dual barely misses and you get -1 dmg on the enemy, it totally fucks your avg hit).

After hitting double hammer or maybe axe... post your results.  Did you find that by playing mercilessly, always shotgun dualling and taking the closest, surest shot possible, your win percent jumped 10-20%?  I'm curious to see if someone makes any really miraculous jumps out there.  Give yourself at least 100 games and come back and post.

Avereage hit is the stupidest statistic ever.  In theory its possible to have a 100% win rate with a 0 avereage hit, if every kill is a perfect bunge.

I think I'll do this eventually, probably with A Sate, which should be pretty easy to do. Hell, I think I could end up with about an 85% win rate, 350 average hit after about 100 games since I'm already fairly good with A Sate, considering I only ever play it when someone comes in and beats my lightning with it.

Right now, though, I'm trying to get good at Lightning, which is coming along kinda slow.

Wow. I had this stat-chasing idea ever since I reached BAxe and realised how wands are generally 'badly treated' by kiddos in Gunbound. (I'm 2k GP from wand now)

I'll probrably start this crusade some time next month, with my "Wooden Panda Monkey" avatar which looks fitting with a boomer.
But I'll stick to zone 11/12 cos both real noobs and fake noobs all make me sick

Maybe I'll call him "PandaMonkeyWoodenBoom" or "banzaiPMWB" for short  :P

err... when i first started playing i had a win rate of around 75% because i used to be ranked 1 in worms2... after about 5 months, my win% is at around 90%... play/challenge/find me at zone 11 anytime, would love a good match~ but you're right, many ruby wands who stack teams with guildmates are lame, and usually lose... most games i win in zone 11 are wif random people in random rooms~~ sometimes it's nice to play wif ppl u dunno... get to know more ppl and able to give them advise  :P

stats aren't really that important to have...nor are the indicators of your skill level,  hell, i've seen real noob with higher average damage than me, they average around 250 because all they know is how to dual shotgun with boomer, and those stats fail to take into account bots that don't just dish out heavy damage to win,  what about bunge bots like bf and raon?  or bots that trap people in holes? like lightning and maybe grub...

win rate doesn't mean much anymore either, i can attribute hundreds of games that i could have and should have won if i didn't lag out.

anyways, this sounds like something you could do if you were really bored...but since i quit boomer and took up lightning...i doubt i can get that average hit...

I only played Para once(And it was a long time ago), but he did have an 81% win rate and a 255 average hit. But he's managed to maintain it till ruby hole. Efferus has similar stats, too.

The win rate and average damage are much higher than on the account I've been playing since I started gunbound, heh

Thought I'd mouth off to a few of the replies:

QuoteAvereage hit is the stupidest statistic ever. In theory its possible to have a 100% win rate with a 0 avereage hit, if every kill is a perfect bunge.

Yes, it's pretty obvious what can happen when you consciously go out of your way to fuck with the stats.  You can also do 550 damage dual and never play the account again.  Despite your bunge example, average hit is a legit statistic anyway. More deaths in the game occur from damage than from bunge, and more of the maps are more likely to result in a kill than a bunge.  I feel that while bunge is nice, damage is the name of the game.  If you know that when a person hits, you can count on them for 300+ damage per shot... that's geniunely useful, even if it's some noob who doesn't know enough to play delay.  I'd be THRILLED to have a noob who shotgun duals with boomer correctly every turn.

Fankee: I'd definitely love to see you play then, I find 90% win rate from playing with random people impossible to believe, because at least 1/10 games is lost due to lagout, and even a fantastic player can't turn a loss into a win if he has 3 teammates who play like shit.  PS: I would think a player who is that good wouldn't even have the word 'stack' in his vocabulary, since your point seems to be that skill matters more than stats, rank, and even the quality of your teammates.  I can see you're red wand so you're obviously winning a lot.   Do worms skills translate into gunbound?

Griever: A lot of people go out of their way to say stats don't mean crap, but when I see someone with a high win rate and it's not a botter's win rate, that's worth paying attention to.  I.e. 98% you can write off as a loser with 2 PCs, but 79% is probably a scary guy.

Lol psik.. I've maybe seen the same dude.  Did he have gold axe rank?  There are probably a bunch out there like that.  I remember thinking "jesus, how does he play a normal game like this with regular people... 1 loss means he must bot 99 games to keep his win rate up."

killa: is para famous or smth?  I can't find the account you're referring to.  I see a gold baxe efferus but just 'para' is a hammer.

kiwi: w00t.  How's your turtle win rate?

I saw a wand with about a 420 avg hit the other day... and a 90 something win rate... except he spoke... obviously not botting... I saw him hit (he was on my team) and HOLY SHIT... he was good... the average damage and win rate were true: he really did do about 400 per turn...

Me? My win rate is like 50% and my avg is 201 :P

Para is just a short form for PARANOiA who was a former mod of GBHQ. I don't think he plays much anymore, since he's not very up-to-date on the latest patches.

cbchui stopped playing on his main account, he gets too much crap on it...

As for my turtle win rate, I don't know... I never usually use turtle unless it's on random so it's probably not very high :P

Hmm.. I've never been one for second accounts. However, right now Noelani is my second account because my stats were transferred due to Schatzi being hacked to death.

Total: 76 %

Another good way to increase average hit is using armor's shot 2. Very powerful. :)

MoMe: That's pretty decent for your level.  I was stuck for a long time at 55%, right up through gold axe or so, then finally started creeping towards the 60's when I hit wand.  Even now after learning so much 66% is all I muster.  I think a natural win rate for a good player should be in the 70's, which is what my armor/turtle percentages are.  Over 70% on the first account is fantastic, I'm blessed with 2 players in my tiny guild who have that.  They're silver baxe now but when they're wand they'll be frigging scary.

My winning rate always flickers from 69% to 70%. I NEVER stays, I think the difference is a couple of wins, and a couple of losses. Every time I look at it its one of those. I`m nearly a gold battleaxe, and on my first account.

Post by: MetallicSlug on Jun 05, 2004, 09:43 AM
I don't care about the stats on my main account, but sometimes I start a new account and play it for a whole day just to see how much I've improved, and how high I can get them.  I get my win% into the mid 90s most of the time, and once got my average hit to 449.  And this is usually in zone 12. 8D

I also do this when my friends need money, I make a new account and 1vs1 all day in the noob zones...  Even without any gold gear, I can still get around 40k in a few hours merely because I win every single game.  It's sickly satisfying.

And speaking of sick winning rates, I saw a battleaxe once with a 100% winning rate... and I DKed him. 8]

Yes, but I could easily keep it that high, even get it higher, after more games... all you have to do is only dual noobs on Cakebot (with Boomer). 8]

GB Account #1
Name: LIALE
Ranking:46061
GP: 10303
Win: 66%
By Map: Random 66%, Miramo Town 65%
By Mobile: Ice 79%, Grub 58%
Damage: 208

GB Account #2
Name: Alelorax
Ranking:72362
GP: 8130
Win: 71%
By Map: MetaMine 73%, Miramo 74%
By Mobile: Ice 81%, Boomer 65%
Damage: 211

The only thing that's even close to scary is my win % with ice. Overall, I basically suck a lot. Ice is about the only mobile I stand somewhat of a chance in. That and cake. I'd have a win rate of like 80% on cake too.

And yes, I do bring down Noelani's %.
