Yeah, so as many of you may know, I've been playing less Gunbound so as not to deal with the numerous idiots roaming the servers. However, this time, I choose not to play Gunbound simply because out of the blue, it decided not to work again. I don't know where else to put this thread besides the rant forum, since I'm thoroughly pissed and expressing it like so.
Anyways, here's my plight. The game has been rendered unplayable for me by way of EXTREME slowdown. Yeah, I have no idea what happened all of a sudden, since I've went about and tried every graphical setting my video card drivers will allow to try and fix it. the game updated one day and I join a room only to find the ready room chugging along at about 5 frames per second. Keep in mind that my computer is powerful enough to render graphics heavy games such as Unreal Tournament 2003 WITHOUT much slowdown. Did Softnyx decide to screw up another update, or what?
Anyway, I'm going to attempt reinstalling Gunbound once I get home from school and if nothing works, I doubt much else will until another update. Until then, I'm going back to Counter-Strike. Don't bother telling me to update DirectX or my video card drivers, since I have the latest for both.
Ever since the new update, as far as the nprotect, the game has been going down in flames, Caz did post about how much the game sucks, and it is a continuing problem. And I know your comp can handle it, my comp is a 2.41 Ghz Athlon 3000xt, it can handle Farcry with the graphic settings on very high, either something else is wrong with the updates, or gunbound just overall sucks, Gunbound is screwed up beyond repair, and it looks like gunbound is never going to recover.
Dreamcatcher
What I'd like to know is just how many people are affected by this, since people are obviously still playing the game.
i haven't seen this happen to my gb yet. how ever...a few of my friends have seen similar problems, and they can't seem to figure it out either...my only guess is that if everything you have is updated...then it could be something that you installed recently having conflicts with gb...some hidden processes thats eating up memory. i dunno...just a guess..
I have had no problems, nor have anyone I play with regularly...

agrees with top
maybe its just softnyx.... they choose who they hate or something..

If thats the case softnyx sure loves me!
I haven't had any problems either...
I have minor problems but they become bigger if im on the router. I can play UT with winamp running and kazaa and BT with no problems...i try to run GB with low settings and winamp....BOOM
Le Purple Box says hallo
I get kicked and rant for a second before closing the rest of my apps just to play. What bullshiet
I don't have ANY of these problems.
Thats odd I havent had any graphical problems in gb between the numerous Gameguard patches.
Specs on my comp that I built:
Windows Xp Home Edition
Asus P4P8X motherboard
Pentium 4 2.6Ghz 800Mhz bus Hyper-Threading (enabled)
1 Gig of PC2700 DDR in dual channel mode
ATI Radeon 9600XT with Overdrive enabled. Catalyst driver version 4.5
Have you altered any system settings on your computer before or after the gb update? If so please list changes made or describe all your problems below. Also, does this happen in all your games now?
Let's see....The most I did was install Japanese text support, but I don't know what THAT would do to it..
gah... I now remember why I stopped helping people in comp help forums.....no offense.....but now I cant stop thinking about what may be causing your graphics problem in gb...argh >_<
There are so many potential problems... some of which may seem completely unrelated. OMG I HATE WINDOWS XP.
Few suggestions:
Run anti virus program
Run anti spyware program (spyware, malware, trojans, viruses, etc can slow down a computer considerably)
Defragment if you haven't (not related to gb but will improve performance)
Check your advanced settings for your graphics card.
In the gb login screen>options>system option>try disabling "automatic refresh rate control"
Refresh this page because I may add more to this post throughout the night.
Check your firewall settings. And check the settings or advanced options for programs you may be running while gb is active.
mm....try ending all your extraneous processes through task manager, so pretty much everything under owner, except explorer, and some system processes can be ended too...then run gb. then at least you can isolate it so you'll know whether its a hard ware conflict thing, settings conflict...or program conflicts...or others...
If Gunbound is running extremely slow, check for the Sasser worm. It uses your computer as a host for DoS attacks I believe. This would cause extreme slowdown and deplete the RAM rather quickly. Open task manager and tell me if you see several of the same program open at once. If so you have the Sasser.
Thanks Great one is here, I found the virus that slows gb down.
Is it svchost.exE? and there was this one site for free adware and virus scanning on some site anyone have it?
I think Windows update killed the Sasser worm for me a while ago. Anyways, after reinstalling from a fresh install file, it decided to work again. I'm not sure if that did it, or changing my text to English did it or what, but it's fine now.

this is ad aware, removes most spy/adwares
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/)
spy bot S&D, another good thing to have
http://www.safer-networking.org/ (http://www.safer-networking.org/)
as for virus scanning, i have norton 2002 pro, but i leeched that one, you prolly have a better chance to go and find a free one online.
and as for svchost.exe, its a normal process of windows,
Try Trend Micro's free online anti-virus scanner (gets rid of certain spyware files too!)
http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/consumer/p...usecall_pre.php (http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/consumer/products/housecall_pre.php)
BTW: Spybot SnD sometimes hangs while fixing problems detected. In this case, just minimize it and be really patient (This happens all the time to me).
After a bit of searching through my folders, I found out I had the Sasser worm. Funny, huh?
gah....Spybot S&D hasnt been updated in over a month x.x
I use Adaware as well as Spybot S&D
AVG Antivirus is pretty good too.
Though the best way to protect yourself is to keep winblows....hem....windows up to date. And disable services you dont use. Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services
And you can stop and delete startup processes you dont want or need through Spybot S&D.
Also....use a firewall! Try the free version of Zonealarm (DO NOT USE WINDOWS FIREWALL)
Error: Inferior operating system. Please reinstall Windows to continue.
That problem was one of 'der thangs that drove me to deleting gunbound.
