Poll
Question:
Title: Money Suit
Post by: Petroleum on Jun 17, 2004, 02:37 PM
For the past month I've retained from using my money suit -- and using my alternative (Rocker Hair, Laser Goggles, Rain Coat, Gold Stick). Some of you may know that I am striving for the Pharoah head piece, which would complete my avatar. Should I sell my money suit to obtain this piece or use the money suit to get to it (In total of the selling will give me 54k; one of the items were given, and added to my total currency would be 95k -- half way there). I probably won't use the money suit for long, but I still cannot decide on what do do.

*Note: The poll is asking for if you own one, post here to reply to my problem.

Honestly, if you want the pharoh which i once did, USE THE MONEY SUIT, yes, yes i know im antistat but this was pre-era that...i was still playing where i wanted items and eventually those came into play but i was lucky...most of the items i had for the suit were free...and they helped alot. At about 1K a game its good so dont sell the suit.

Eventually, you'll want something else and chances are its expensive...

Dont be like me and take about 3 weeks to get 20k since i don't whore anymore

Use The Suit
get the gold
get the item

Does having hawaiian dress and lantern count? It's only two avatars. I used it to complete my 'Snow white on PMS' suit and I don't play for money anymore.

Oh no, a two sided response -- I wasn't hoping for. Actually, I have lots of time, since my summer started on June 15 and goes to September 13 I believe. I can make about 10k a day if I spend four or five hours playing straight. Plus, when I have the money suit, I don't use high angles or backshots (I cannot use it well) -- which is money crazy. Hrm....

My money suit is tuxedo, bridegroom hair, sunglasses and panda stick, I think it looks cool and I earn as much money as the cheap and ugly money suit owners...

Whether you want to look ugly for a while is up to you, although I personally wouldn't sell to get to an item... Just keep on playing 1v1 with a money suit, you can make 100k in a day if you're dedicated enough... (Well I made 100k in a day without a money suit once ;P)

I've always been of the opinion that in my GB playing, I prioritize skills first and foremost.  A far second is rank and gold mining.  A very far far third is style.  With that in mind, the only reason I'm wearing a money suit is because of the "extra" gold I "may" get, NOT because I intentionally hunt for gold.  And with Style being last on my priority, I don't really care if I look like the ugliest person on GB, or if everyone else looks the same ugly shit.  As long as I'm hitting my shots and my skills improve and I don't let my team down and we're winning, I'm happy as a lark.

Therefore, I've had two money suits: (1) the cheaper set of flamingo, casket, red nose and punky brown hair, which I had all gifted away and (2) the more expensive tuxedo, bridegroom hair, sunglasses and panda stick.  I switch between bridegroom hair, poet head and riding hat, and between panda stick and conga.  These variation sets only give me 47 (out of 50 max) gold stars.

i would have a money suit after i get brides groom hair and tux... so i dont own 1 yet. Just play with your money suit! There is no real point of selling avatar because you will eventually miss them

10k in five hours?  you could make a lot more than that.  even without a money suit, you can make about 40k in that time...  if you play for like 12 hours staright with the money suit you can get over 100k :P

What people dont seem to realize is that the cheapest (and ugliest) money suit you can purchase and still achieve 50 gold is 135k, if you make 1000-ish gold per-game, you have to play 135 games, likely more becuase you will not win them all, just to make a profit off the suit.

for it to be affective you have to have a plan, you need to buy the money suit when you are still a low rank, then use it for a long time, the longer you use it, the more profitable it will become.

using a money suit from early on, when you dont have the money for good stat gear anyways...will help you later...meaning you will have more gold for your rank than most others not gold whoring from the beginning.

this seems obvious, but some people dont realize that if you buy one as a way to earn much needed gold, you have to stick with it for quite a while before you see any signifigant gains.

btw, I also own a gold suit. but its stylish

bride groom hair
navy uniform
Matrix Glasses
Panda stick

I dont really use it much, but its nice to have I guess... B)

Black Dress

I would say sell the damn suit, personally..if you can, at least.

SELL THE WHORE SUIT.

Gold whores suck.  They blind my eyes and make me cringe in disgust whenever I see one of them.  What are they doing it for?  So they can buy a clone suit and go to avatar on so they can degenerate into the average GB player.  Plus, when you have a clone suit, you can't start a game, anyway, so what's the point?

What a lame generalization.  And oh so quick to jump to conclusions.  Easy on the trigger, fella.  Be careful, or you'll grow up to be a racist and a bigot.

By the way, I'm not defending gold whores but it's lame-ass posts like these that tend to ruin otherwise good discussions.  And hey, I have a money suit.  See my earlier post.

I agree.

Gold-whoring isnt bad...
the only thing I despise is when, the person with a gold suit decides that they dont care about anything but the gold bonuses...they dont care about winning, they just try to get as many gold bonuses per shot as possible. And then they try to attatch themselves to the strongest team to leech off their wins and skill.

those kinds of people get on my nerves alot.
but not everyone who enjoys making gold fits this sterotype.

I was summing up the attitude of most gold whores.  They come to the avatar off zones to get the gold so they can go back to the on servers and get a clone suit.  Why else would you want so much gold?  To buy style avatars?  Having a whore suit in the first place ruins the point of style avatar.

I am biased against the Hawaiian/Red Nose/Punky Brown/Vampire Casket clone because it LOOKS SO UGLY, that's why it makes me cringe.

And I'm the last person to be racist, seeing as how I face it every day.

And I don't want to start a whole debate, I've had my fill for the past month. 8)

EDIT:  I think the discussion ended here:

The fastest route is definitely to save directly for the item you want, but eventually that outfit will bore you.

I decided to collect all the suits I think are major and useful in the game, so I got a money suit and stat suit.  Outside of those 2, you don't really need anything else... but because I'm the anal kind of dude who levels my RPG characters up to lv99, I also got a bunge suit... and only then did I really start buying for fun.

So I think my recommendation would be to grab the money suit since it will be useful in the future.

There's nothing wrong with the money suit.

I wish we were still in the old days where we can use ice tag and have money suit. That match will certainly get over 700 for losing player. Over 1000 for the winner.

The only item I have that could be classified as stat-whorish is the Vampire Casket. Those of you who remember my sig from the old GB-HQ will know, though, that I bought the Casket almost a year before stats were enabled on Avatar-Off zones.

I cried that day, I cried. I think what Softnyx was going for with this change was letting people bank a little more off of their regular style suits. Like whatever gold stats you had on your suit would now help you out. But then the whores soon realized that you could max out a gold suit and get very much gold in a game.

I don't hate the gold whores, though they look ugly and make servers 11 and 12 bland. I hate Softnyx for what they've done.

Besides... I don't think the Flamingo clothes look bad at all. *runs and hides*

i used to own almost every kind of popular suit imaginable =P

I had the gold whore, then I had the pure Attack Whore (pirate one), then I had the Gold Clone....I guess i've learned my lesson and now i have style suits in avatar off  :P  The most gold making thing I have is prolly around 36 popularity (Panda Head, Suit, Stick, and Monkey Face)

Well one way to get rid of all the gold whores, (I have said this about a million times by now in game and other forums), would be to return the old gold and gp bonuses.

For those that don't know, you were able to make 200 gold when you hit 2k damage, 300 for when you hit 3k damage. And the idividual winning bonuses were much higher (I forgot but I think that it was 600 gold per 4v4 win). And a few other bonues were changed around. One could atleast get 1k gold per game, and a little over 3k was the max.

Why would that deter the gold whores? I think that would give them more of an incentive to use those gold suits, since you still gained extra gold by using them.

The best way to get rid of gold suits is to just get rid of popularity on the "avatar-off" servers.

My biased Oddity Guild opinion: Don't ever at any point in the lifetime of your gunbound character compromise your style and self-expression. Always take whatever little bit you have and put together the best avatar creation you can to express who you are at that particular time. With patience, you will eventually discover and build an ideal set that reflects your own fun vision of yourself.

People with this sort of attitude are my preference.

ie. Striving for creativity > compromising that creativity temporarily in favor of saving time or in favor of statistical advantage.

I got 2,000 damage 5 times today, and I just realized how much better it was back then.  I was the Space Clown, and all of the cool people use to come to zone 8 (there was one avatar off zone, and there was no popularity).  Giving us back the old bonuses, even if people will ice tag along with it, would solve everything.

It is my view that they should create a genuine avatar off server and leave a popularity server if they want. I wouldn't be opposed to leaving a popularity server because it would reveal many people's "true colors", as they say. There were several people in Oddity that instantly tried to become 'secret' money whores when the popularity servers first came out, so it was actually a good screening agent for bannings.

The clothing you were wearing was gold however.............

I think that Money Hores look aweful, I play a 4 v 4 game, only to see 7 players  look identical (im the odd man out)

I really hate it when everyone looks the same, it looks so unoriginal.  The concept of avatar's, in my eyes, is to have a unique appearance, by wearing something based on stats, it just makes you another "..." whore out there.  When I see someone with a cool outfit I compliment them, because now-a days, its kind of getting rare, and its getting harder and harder to find...

If you ask me, buying the full basic money suit really is rather hurting your cause more than helping. You'll spend about...135k? That right there can buy you a pretty high-price item..In addition to that, most of the money suit morons I see make about 600-800g in one game, about the same amount that I make with an avatar that has about 6 popularity as opposed to 50.

If you don't see the difference, you're a bigger bigot than I thought you were.  A money whore is one who plays for gold, or who places more importance on his/her personal gold gain than winning in general.  But not all who wear a money suit are money whores who go hunting for gold each and every shot.  Take me and my buddies.  Most of us wear money suits (though we've graduated to the more expensive tuxedo set).  If you eavesdrop on us on team chat, you won't hear a single mention of gold or money.  But you'll hear a lot on damage and killing.  There's still some of us money suits who care more about dealing more damage and winning GP's.  So don't generalize, that's all I'm saying.

There's a world of difference between a money-hungry grub shooter who high angles all the shots in the whole game to the detriment of the whole team, and another player who high-angles it because it's his/her only shot.  That's just one example.  But you should know the difference.

Well, go you and your friends I suppose, but all of the ones (or at least the majority) I've run into have been morons.  Cake riding, carrying all dual+s and high angling at the expense of everything else.  I suppose personal experience has soured me?

QuoteIt's only a money whore suit, if they use it as such!!
How else would they use it?    I'm sure Punky Brown, Red Nose, Hawaiian Wear, and a Casket is a fashion statement.
If you don?t see the difference, you?re a bigger bigot than I thought you were.  A money whore is one who plays for gold, or who places more importance on his/her personal gold gain than winning in general.  But not all who wear a money suit are money whores who go hunting for gold each and every shot.  Take me and my buddies.  Most of us wear money suits (though we?ve graduated to the more expensive tuxedo set).  If you eavesdrop on us on team chat, you won?t hear a single mention of gold or money.  But you?ll hear a lot on damage and killing.  There?s still some of us money suits who care more about dealing more damage and winning GP?s.  So don?t generalize, that?s all I?m saying.

There?s a world of difference between a money-hungry grub shooter who high angles all the shots in the whole game to the detriment of the whole team, and another player who high-angles it because it?s his/her only shot.  That?s just one example.  But you should know the difference.
A money whore is a money whore, simple as that. The point of a money suit is to gain extra gold. Only idiots try to deny that.

Now there are two kinds of money whores, the stupid ones (the high angling grubers) and the smart ones (the ones that try to win the game and leech of the winning bonuses).

Saying that wearing a money suit doesn't make you a money whore is just plain retarded.

Edit: And yes I have a money suit. I have the more expensive Tuxedo set.

By your logic if I wear a full clone suit and go into the avatar on servers to rape the hell out of a n00bs with out any stats, that wouldn't make me a stat whore.

Let this be an unpunishable warning to the both of you..

Really though, Kelly, money suits are used by money whores, enough said. Perhaps SOME people like the Bridegroom set, but everyone who uses the Hawaiian Undertaker set uses it to be a money whore. There's no possible way you could make anyone believe otherwise.

Actually, he didn't say anything about all money whores being stupid, unless I missed it.  He said someone dressed in money gear is whoring gold and to say different is retarded.  He didn't make any kind of assertion about the intelligence of people who wear the suits.

I don't have a money suit, and I don't want one either. I'd look like everyone else on GB. I'd rather look differently from everyone else with a unique avatar so people could go 'Hey! Your that guy with the full hockey suit, here have 100k' instead of 'Hey!... you look like everyone else, no gold for you'

sometimes it may, as others have stated, the retarded money whores go for the back shots, high angles, boomer shots just to get the measely bonus with disregard to actually win the game to gain even more gold then the bonus can and many of us has become a victim of this at one point or another.

The money suit.

To be honest, I absolutely cannot understand the community of GunBound cares how other people dress their avatar.

It is very simple:

GunBound has statistics. 'Popularity' (which increases your income of gold) is one of these statistics. Thus, generating a suit with the maximum possible 'Popularity' is a valid tactic.

Any player who 'hates' or 'holds grudges against' people because of the fact they simply own such a suit, should not play this game.

However, if a player is deliberately destroying other player's fun by attempting to collect bonusses, instead of attempting to win the game, now that's something you may hold grudges against. So, if the game was created to be a serious match, these type of players should participate in serious killing, instead of obtaining gold.

But, if the game was not specifically stated to be a serious match, the creator should not be angry against those people who attempt to collect gold.

Or, in other words: Enjoy your game instead of stressing about others. Your game is what you make it.

Congratulations!!  Someone has seen the light.

The difference between me and Sol is that I prefer to make the distinction between the many people who wear the money suit, while he generalizes everyone who does.  That's where I'm coming from when I liken some people to being bigots.  Maybe that's too strong a word, maybe I should have used "narrow-minded".  I apologize if anybody's offended by my language.

I agree there are money whores out there, but there are also money suit wearers who are NOT money whores.  Those are the people who have the skills to WIN and smart enough to recognize the fact that style does not benefit anybody other than "just looking good".  Style fades but smarts stick.

Maybe I'm not looking hard enough, but it's been a LONG time since I've seen anyone with a money suit do anything that could could be considered smart. The closest thing I've seen to 'smart tactics to win' is tilting the balance scale in their favor (I.E. disabling all items except Dual/Dual+).

If they use boomer, they do nothing but UHAs in null wind and backshots any other time.
If it's A.Sate, same thing practically.
As for JD, I ever see it anymore, but if I do, it's machinegun shot 1.

There may be exceptions, but those are seriously few and far between from my observation, and I've been in the community for quite some time.

I have a money suit and don't use boomer, infact I really only use boomer when I get it in random, I HATE BOOMER RAR! :/

I'm just special like that.

I play to TEAM win, I don't play to show off. I only backshot when I have no other angles (i played an awesome game with armor when i had to do back shooting. Backshot armor SS pwnt.) Once I get my samurai suit, I'll hardly ever use Money Suit again! Maybe just mix and match them. I really don't want to sell it because then Id be waisting avatars. I have this habit where I sell something to buy something else, it really sucks :/. I want OVER 20 items. I have only 9 because of my buying and selling habit. :(

shrug, I play pretty smart and I go out of my way to use a money suit sometimes to save for a specific item (like the horribly expensive new avatars).

I think a lot of good players have money suits, they just don't use them all the time.  Owning a money suit doesn't make someone an ass, using it sometimes or all the time doesn't make them an ass, but using it to do the things you described does I guess.

Geez, that's exactly the whole point of my argument, anybody notice?  I said previously that it's only a money whore suit if it is used as such (i.e. usually to the detriment of the team win or the more effective shot).  I refuse to be called a money whore just because of my preference in clothes.  (You can call me unfashionable though, see if I care...  :D )  I use boomer and I don't UHA non-true angle ALL the time in zero wind when there's a perfectly good true-angle 35 or even a boring shotgun to do more damage and help my team.

I think I've beaten this horse to death, so imma lay off this topic.

haha you're right but some people are bad at shotgun, and low angles.  if wind is low i prefer high angles so i dont miss.  some people, including me are horrible at shotgun.  i miss most of my shotguns.  also back shots do more dmg.  i always back shot when i get a chance.  also hook shots are better because u can use drag and pull it all da way.  quicker than just lower angle shots.  money just happens to tag along...

heh one of my teammates recently did a long backshot and missed to cost us the game.  I think the idea that some people are bad at shotgun is bs.  There's no technique to it, point the aimer at the enemy and max power.  A five year old can do it.   I wish more people had the attitude that "I shotgun whenever I get the chance" instead of "I backshot whenever I get the chance".

I shotgun when i get the chance... If theres a perfectly good sg available, why not use it? (unless you're planning to Type 2 SS him with turtle) There's nothing wrong with shotgunning. There's only something wrong when you do nothing but shotgunning. Also, i tend to dual when i get a SG chance, because such a sure opportunity to hit the dual never comes up again in a game... You could dual any regular shot, but there's always a small chance to miss, but sg... If you miss a 1-inch sg, you suck. Period.

But I dunno if you're there yet.  Do you mean it's dumb to shotgun the whole game if you need to use true angle or a lob or something, or it's dumb to shotgun all the time even if it's true angle and a sure hit?
If you CAN shotgun the whole game in true angle, you SHOULD.  That'd be a fantastic game.

i seriously cant shotgun dude.  u can add me "gentquality" and u'lll see i miss most of my shotguns.  Also, i play this game to have fun, im not so CRAZY about winning, but i try to have my best time i can.  Shotgun is just boring.  u sit there and hold the spacebar or drag straight.  To me that's just plain boring.  Also backshot does more dmg than regular shots.  so WHY not back shot if you KNOW you ain't going to miss?
You and I are on a complete different level here.  You care more about winning your game, I care more about the fun factor.  Don't get me wrong i dont think shotgunning is noobish at all.  it's actually smart if you doubt your shots.  But me, i like doing trick shots most of the time because its fun, and i know im going to hit with a nice dmg.  That's why my attitude is "i backshot whenver i get a chance"

OMG, this thread is long... Didn't read it all (well, it's late ;) ) but from what I read I generally sympathize with MetallicSlug.

I did own a money suit -- it was Thanxgiving/Hawaiian/Zorro mask/Lamp of Good Luck. It had only 42 popularity and was (I hope  :D  ) a unique money suit -- turning into a Punky Brown money whore was my greatest fear!

One day however I slapped my forehead, sold the suit (save the Lamp, it's lucky after all, although unused) and bought what you can see in my sig below. Now I'm a happy man, especially when unknown people approve of my avatar :D

I wish the old days of TRULY avatar-off zones came back  :(  The last two servers would be less laggy, less crowded, less whore-full... Sad thing is that the whores really often prefer to miss a backshot than hit via shotgunning... and that is annoying. Plus, a team of clones looks ga... uncool in my eyes.

So, my final advice to the author of the thread is:
You need to decide if you want to have style at all times or do you need a quick cash. I (uniquely-)whored while getting about a half of my money so I'm not saint ;) I'm converted however and now I play for fun only (note however, that winning gives me most fun -- I'm a win-whore now :P )

myself included, I do everything I can to gain an advantage, and stat whoring is just that.

Cheif
Golden Armor
Pet-02
Robot X

why allow someone else to have any advantage over you becuase you want to look cooler than them...?...If they have a full stats suit and you dont, your at a disadvantage.

Do I have several style avantars?

yes.

do I use them the most?

no.

Do I own a money suit?

an expensive stylish one, yes.

that about sums me up

QuoteI was just giving an example of how idiotic she was calling us "racist" for hating whores.
QuoteI was just giving an example of how idiotic she was calling us "racist" for hating whores.
First thing first, I'm not a "she".

I thought I'd let this lie.  But the above quoted post called me idiotic (and I don't think I ever mentioned the word "hate" before), I'd thought it best to explain why I used the words "racist" and "bigot".

From the dictionary:

bigot - one who is strongly partial to one's own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ...

racist - the belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability, and that a particular race is superior to others...

If those two words do not define the mentality of the majority of people around this forum regarding "people who wear money suits" simply because they wear money suits, then I don't know what does.

But in a later post, let me mention that I apologized and took back what I said, and would now rather call these people "narrow-minded" at the least.  I respect their position that they like style and creativity over everything else, but to call all money suit wearers "money whores" is where the line must be drawn.

Good for you, ROY4L.  Everybody must listen to your words.  There is no hate, there should never be hate.

Fair enough I guess.  What it boils down to is how good you are at backshots I think.  Some people are so good at backshots that they might as well be shotgunning, they're sure to hit.  The ones that piss me off are the ones who really just don't know.  Also, if the game came right down to it, and it was really close, and a miss meant losing, I think even the worst shotgunner in the world should TRY to shotgun.  Shotgun is so flexible there's 0 possibility of fucking up the power, and sometimes 2 or even 3 different angles are acceptible to hit the enemy.
With so much room for error,  I can't see why anyone would risk choking a backshot after a long, difficult game.
