Ok I know it's been said over and over that Trico's SS does a random amount of damage, BUT lately I've been trying out the SS and getting great results, sometimes.
I'm sure it is not random damage cause you can "see" what shot will be very damaging.
Let me explain. It's comon knowledge that the SS consists of multiple explosions and that it is a solid type bullet (it can impact on mobiles). But that alone doesnt explain how damage behaves.
You can do two almost identical shots and get wild damage diferences. This happens because either the damage IS random, or because there are also small explosions. IF these small explosions occur far away from the sweetspot they dont do damage and, from my experience, this is so. On the other hand, these explosions are very small, smaller than Armour's shot 2 second explosion. Also, they occur closer to the SS's explosions center point. So it is necesary to hit the exact sweetspot to do massive damage.
Now the obvious question now is HOW IN THE WORLD ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO HIT THE SWEETSPOT???? Like I said, the SS is a solid type shot.
What no one is aware of is that the SS digs thru land OR bots.
You can see that for yourself if you look closely when a SS hits, you'll notice that the explosions occur a bit deeper into the bot or land. At first I thought that the shot digged a fixed distance foward that maybe depended only on the speed at impact, but that's not the case.
For example, I shot SS to an Asate doing a whopping 500 damage. I hit on the top and in the center, with lots of speed, so the shot digged thru Asate, probably hitting very close to the sweetspot. Did a very similar shot on Aduka, the shot also digged thru, but this time it went all the way thru the bot and thru a bit of land too, doing measly 150 damage, I saw that the explosion occur far away from Aduka's center/sweetspot.
THAT'S VERY WEIRD. That left me absolutely confused, I did more and more testing, and got more weird results. But just now I came up with the missing piece in the puzzle.
Before I said that the shot "digs" thru land or bots, so, What other weapon digs thru?? That's right NAK SHOT 2!!!!.
It make a lot of sense now, Asate actually floats above land, so there is a small empty space between the bot's bottom and the land. If SS behaves like Nak's 2 BUT it is still a solid type shot, it would dig thru Asate like Nak's 2 digs thru land, and when it encouters the empty space below it explodes.
In the Aduka case, the shot went thru the bot and it found land directly bellow, so it kept digging, actually exploding after a set amount of time (like one or two tenths of a second).
The SS also seems to be affected by an upward acceleration like Nak's 2, cause it is harder to make the shot dig downward, against the the anti-gravity effect.
In fact GB programmers probably just reused Nak's 2 digging code in Trico's SS, except they included the time limit.
In sumary, Trico's SS consist of very small explosions along with bigger ones (smaller ones probably occur first), it also digs thru land or bots very similar to Nak's shot 2 (including the upward acceleration Nak's 2 has) except the shot explodes if a set amount of time passes while digging.
----- Note -------
Now you also know why Nak's 2 is non-solid type shot, cause if it was solid it would be real easy to hit hovering bots like Asate, Mage or Dragon. =)
LOL now that i think about it.
ASATES, IT'S PAYBACK TIME!!!!!! IM GONNA SS YOU ALL TO DEATH!!! hahahaah
wow, if thats true, then you did alot of research :o:
thanks for the info :^_^:
Nice you of you to share, thank you.
:^_^:
No problem. :D:
I just hope one day people will recognize Trico as the most powerful bot, because it is!!!!
Im totally convinced about that :): .
Does this mean that short lobs with the trico ss should deal more damage than long range shots, since this was the ss will dig less into the ground?

It's the same difficulty to hit a sate, a mage, a boomer and a bigfoot. I think I misunderstood that statement.
i hope this information doesn't lead to an unstoppable army of mezz's who will conquer the vorld.
:(
Not to be a nitpicker, but "I've been getting great results sometimes" is like saying "I've been getting great results randomly." :D:
I heard it explained by mauvecow, and ever since I've been sure this is the way it works.
There's a circle.
Within that circle there are lots of mini explosions.
The position and location of these mini explosions is random.
BUT common sense will tell you: The more centered the circle is on the target, the better the chance is that the mini explosions will touch hit core and therefore get some damage. Obviously if only 1/3 of the circle is touching the enemy core (i.e. a half miss) then your chances of a randomly placed mini-explosion hitting him are cut by 2/3.
People swear they see better results if they can get the enemy to 'fall through' the circle during the explosion. That may be true. By falling through the circle, you can get damage from mini-explosions at the extreme top, the middle, and the extreme bottom of the circle, whereas someone who is sitting still only gets damage from the middle. That's why it seems to do better when your enemy is on a thin ledge and you shotgun the underside of that ledge, they fall through and touch many mini-explosions on the way down. It's also why dragon seems to get hit harder by the explosion, he has a tall core so he's getting some of the explosions at the top and bottom that others won't get.
All of this still doesn't mean anything useful though - everyone has a theory on trico's SS, but nobody can get high damage every single time, whenever they want. Without being able to do that, what else can you do except try hit the center of the enemy mobile with it? (i.e. the same thing you'd do with almost any other shot in gunbound) :D:
Creedo said basically what I was going to say.
your theory on it being like a nak shot 2, except going through the mobile and not the ground, is interesting nonetheless. :o
Ill try this out.. But.. are you saying that if you shotgun the ss towards a wall, with the enemy mobile like an inch behind it, flat against his side of the wall, that it will touch him? Because, as we all know, nak ss can travel quite far underground...
this is all built on the same info that creedo thinks is true, and that he gave just earlier:
i found that the mini explosions are about as likely to all lign up on one edge as they are to the center. one thing that is important though, when any shot hits nearby land it does a little damage. if you ever use trico shot 2 to hit a pixel floater, you realize how much you depend on nearby land. when you ss the feet of a guy with land one side and land under him (like hes on a slope, open to you) you get more chance of good damage.
i try to shotgun the ss so that it registers as a hit RIGHT under the guy (due to the fast projectile speed and low collision update speed), that way it hits the maximum amount of land as well as the enemy.
i have never witnessed ss acting like a nak shot 2 though the enemy however. even from very long distance, a shot that hit next to the enemy is just as likely to do 500 damage as one that is from nearby and lands right on his head.
i think maybe the digging you are witnessing has to do with the collision detection. if you shotgun a sates SS at an enemy, it sometimes goes THROUGH the enemy and hits the other side because of the collision detection rate is only updated about 20 times per second (one per fps im guessing), and the projectile is traveling fast enough to detect a hit very late.
A possible way to test this is by using the ss like a nak shot 2.. with back wind, where the trico ss will come down directly on the opponent (and with a nak ss wil go down vertically and hit in the same place)... These should be ideal conditions for >400 dmg.
I'm fairly sure it's just random, because i've done 150 damage ss's to asates before, & I've done 500 damage ss's to bots like armor.
My theory is that if you can get the bot to fall through the explosion within a set ammount of time (before the skull face formation takes full form) you will deal at a minimum 350 damage. So far it's been working for me, heh.
I've dealt a massive 96 to a sate
Creedo, I was "getting great results sometimes", before I realized that the SS behave like Nak's 2. Also you have to consider that sometimes is all my skill level lets me achieve :D:. I still need to try to master the SS to see if i can consistenly do high damage.
Anyway with this knowledge I've done at least 350 damage, when I do manage to hit where I want to. It is also very weird to imagine where the SS will actually explode, since I have no experience with it (no "feel" about the time limit or how it digs thru), just today I realized the mentioned facts.
Mezz, I know that SG also dig thru, but they dont dig up to an inch, like SS did in the Aduka case I explained. SG just dig a few pixels at most. You say you havent seen SS behave like that, well me neither. You CANT see anything, the shot impacts then inmediately all the area is hidden behind the big skull explosion thingy. Also, alll the land around gets destroyed, further erasing clues. What you CAN do is find out where the center point of the explosions is, judging from the skull explosion graphic and compare that to what the land looked like before the impact. Maybe i should take some screenshots to show you.
Note that SS is similar to Nak's 2, not identical. So you can't really do any direct comparison. Nak's 2 dont have a time limit when digging, nor it impacts bots. And if you high angle with back wind the SS could just go thru bot and land exploding far bellow the enemy (when the time limit expires), doing only 250 damage probably.
I still stick with the fact that the explosions are just random. High angeling or lobbing hasn't made a difference, using a "3 in 1 shot 2" shot for the ss hasn't made a difference. the fact that the bots hover as such, hasn't made a difference, either. Though its still a nice theory.
mm never thought that much about a shot.. lol.. thanks for sharing :)
I did some more research. I actually tape recorded the SS using my video card's video out and a VCR :D:
After watching SS in slow motion, I saw the actual frame where the SS does a little jump foward before exploding. That little jump is barely noticeable but it is there. I recorded six SS shots, everytime the same little jump.
I was wrong about the SS digging an inch into bots or land, sorry :):. I measured a few screenshots, it only jumps around twelve pixels in the direction the shot was traveling at impact, but does not depends on the shot speed. A SG jumps the same amount on impact.
So please forget about the wild theory about Nak's shot 2. :):
Im not really sure that the SS always jumps such a little distance, I remember seing it doing a bit bigger jumps, Im gonna continue testing later. Now I'm gona sleep, it's 4.52 AM. :D: The time just flies when one is having fun.
I'm just wondering...did this change in a patch or something? Because I vaguely remember using Trico once in a while a long time ago and I consistently got 400-500 damage.
so what, you're just lucky..
speaking of lucky, a whole room of 2v2, all random, got lightning... i was like reading something, then i look up to see that the game started and everyone's on a lightning and like, WTF!?
So all the myths about the SS doing more damage with more land is false?
QuoteSo all the myths about the SS doing more damage with more land is false?
Not necessarily. Maybe trico ss has no secret, & like I have said atleast twice now,
is completely random.

i agree. its a bunch of explosions
randomly placed within a certain radius of the tracer.

Blake, Im clearly stating that I don't know, I could be wrong in saying they are random explosions. I'm not going to come in & say "I know everything" y'know.
[edit] why are those emoticons so fucking annoying :<_<:
Sorry, thought you implied that they WERE random. Just a misunderstanding :^_^:
i agree with the "circle" ss theory. It really does sound the most logical. O and the thoery about the ss doing more dmg if it destroys more land is false. i tried it with my bro in miramo town with me stuck under one of the hills about 2 inches down? my bro got a super massive 120 dmg outa that. :^_^:
You're right, Trico SS has nothing to do with how much land gets destroyed, although it would seem to be like that.
I tried out some more Trico's SS. The shot DO dig thru the target bot, sometimes a tiny distance, sometimes more. I've seen it now.
I shot SS to a Nak on a flat terrain slightly higher than me, the SS entered thru Nak's side, went thru Nak (or jumped thru between a frame and the next), impacting on the land right below Nak's center point doing 400+ damage. I was quite close, used 35 angle and low power and hit right at Nak's feet.
Im sure that SS does jump thru the target bot hitting closer to the center/sweetspot. Another thing I noticed is that you can consistenly get good results if you hit RIGHT ON your oponent feet. If you hit a tiny bit back, damage is greatly reduced cause the explosions are too far away from the sweetspot. But hitting right on that spot can guarantee at least 300 damage.
Another important factor is wind, vertical wind to be exact. Downward wind will make your target fall down pass the explosions faster. Upward wind will slow down how the bot falls, increasing the time it is exposed to the SS.
If you hit the right spot, on the worst case scenario is with 25 down wind, you will do around 300 damage. On upwards wind the damage increases to 450. But it is vital that you hit VERY close to your target feet.
On the other hand, if you hit on yout oponent's top, you will do anything from 110 to 500 damage, randomly. This depends on how the explosions are placed during the entire SS. If you are lucky, no explosion will move your target, then all the SS will hit. But if a big explosion occurs close to the land bellow the target, then the target will drop, and wont get hit by the rest of the SS.
So you'll need to place the SS explosion right bellow your target to do good damage. If your oponent is on flat terrain the best you can do is shoot at his feet, and the SS will jump a tiny bit foward, closer to the sweetspot. Then the SS explodes, the oponent's bot will fall thru the SS explosions. The slower it falls, the more damage it will take.
I usually use SS as a replacement for shot 2 when I cant get high enought angles, or thru tornados when I can make sure it will hit properly. It is very good to outdelay a guy that just dualed, you SS first doing 300 to 400 dmg and then dual for 500 dmg, and probably kill.
I think Trico's SS is the missing piece to make it a mobile good all round. That's why im focusing so much on it. :):
As for ss's jumping through or at the bot, check out turtle ss, it does it too.
this is really nice piece of info. thanks alot for your info and hardwork =
