Title: Ice
Post by: zyad on Jun 21, 2004, 09:55 AM
Whenever i play a game, i rearely, if ever, see anyone select ice as their main mobile.  According to a gunbound fire survey, it is the least preferred mobile in the game... why is that?

i started using ice a lot recently, and i have been winning the vast majority of my games.  It has high health, it reduces other people's defense (which is really helpful, since almost everone i play has 50 defense), and it has relatively low delay.  I kill boomers and armors with it all the time.  the extra health makes it so i have to be hit at least 2 more times before i die.  it seems to be one of the better bots in the game, but yet almost no one uses it.. it also has a huge angle, so you can get a shot out of almost anywhere....

i just cannot see why more people do not use ice... o_0

add me and u will see an ice player :D .I started using ice and its great.I think alot of people dont use it though because it actually requires some precision and accuracy with shot 2 unlike cake shot 1.Before people used the JD shot 1 because of its great angle and its splash dmg for high angles.Ic is great for that too BUT if u miss by abit thats it no splash dmg like a JD.

My guildmate 404Error uses it, and he's good with it. I don't know if he uses it in 1v1s, but in 4v4s, it's great to have at least ONE Ice player going around shooting everyone.  B)

Its probably because of its appearence thats why people lean towards the mechancial bots rather than the organic

EDIT: Verbally warned for Signature Size.
Your sig is so big, please reduce the size of it. D: -darkmagnolia

It's apperance is cute. I was an Ice user back in the days -- now I am starting to use Ice in a few days. It needs hell of a lot of accuracy to get 200+ with shot 2. Anyone want to make a Ice team?

Ice rules. I used to be an Ice man, but I changed to armor.

I dont know why people dont use it, but its most likely because it involves strategic play. These days people seem to want power power power and melee, where as with Ice you have to think about which weapon you use before you do use it.

but the ice has pretty good firepower.
a dual 2 shot still deals as much as a dual boomer 2 shot, due to defense lowering.

the defense and health is also pretty good.

Ice owns with dual+, it also has the 2nd largest angle in the game, beat only by boomer.

I use it sometimes in avantar off. its an excellent bot

My cousin has been using it a lot lately, and it seems to be working very well for him. It's also a great support bot.

I've started using it recently.  My original purpose was to just have a high health bot I could use to team teleport (anyone that's played with me knows the horror of me team teleporting ;D), but now I'm starting to find I like it anyway.  It's an excellent team-supporting "utility" bot, with its defense lowering capabilities.

I don't think ice's ability to win is the reason people don't use it, though I think its overall usefulness is a bit blah.

I think it's unpopular because it's boring.  The shots all hit directly, none of them do anything special like transform or require special aiming tricks.  The defense weakening... big deal, you see a slightly different red number the next time you shoot.  It doesn't have any cool tricks like raon's shotgunned mines, boomer's backshots, cake's dragging abilities, lightning's angle wrecking, etc.  You just shoot and hit.  I guess you could argue that Armor's shots are pretty boring like that also...  but for some reason armor's shots just look cooler than ice's boring nintendo-like circular ice balls.

In terms of effectiveness, I can't think of any reasons you might pick ice over armor.  The lack of defense means the HP isn't anything special, he dies probably faster than armor does.  The lack of attack strength means that even if you're gradually lowering the enemy's defense using shot 2's and the SS, you'll end up doing the same damage as a powerful mobile... meaning you could have just picked armor and started doing 450-550 dmg per dual right away instead of wearing the opponent down to inflict that much with ice.

You could nitpick the details like ice's larger true angle or lower delay, but in the end if a bot's not one of the best in  the game (I don't think anyone puts ice in the top 3), and he also is pretty boring to watch and play, then why pick him...

Armor's SS especially is nice to see.

Armor Fanboy.

Personally, I think Armor is a bit poopy, although <3 using Armor/Trico tag combo, even if only to make the graveyard armor at the load screen.

I think Ice is more a team bot, than a 1v1 bot, but I do agree that Armor is better, and Ice isn't THAT great.

I agree armor is better than Ice, but Ice is a very good bot in itself. Whether you find it boring or not is your problem but its bunging and high angling capabilites make it a very good screw up bot, and like somebody else said, its very useful to have an ice weakening the other team throughout the game.

Haha, I'm not such an armor fanboy, in fact I am always searching for reasons to not pick armor for serious matches.  It's not even that armor's too good or needs to be nerfed, I just like having 'specialties' that make a bot more fun than armor, or useful in situations where armor wouldn't be.  For example, playing nak is difficult and fun and sometimes when you're buried in a pit, nak is theoretically better than armor.  Or for example it's item lock and you absolutely need 500 damage, turtle can do that and armor cannot.. so in specific situations there are places where not having armor can be an advantage.

But when I look at ice and try to think "would ice be better here than armor" or "is there something more fun I could be doing with ice"... the answer always comes up 'no'.  It's kinda sad.  Even something as simple as a more interesting SS would make ice a much more fun bot... for example, a 0-dmg SS that temporarily leaves a crust of ice on the bot for about the same amount of time as 1 weather condition (i.e. 8 turns in a 4v4 games)... hits during that time would do really noticeable, nasty damage, like 150% of the usual damage.

THAT would be more fun to me than the fixed 20% defense reduction, which you barely notice (200 dmg shots now do... 240! WAH! ...zzzzz).

What is this destroying defense business??  Can you go into a stat hore room with low avatars (or none), shoot ice ss at them and completely destroy there defense, I mean, How does it work in avatar on room compared to avatar off??

BUT the low delay of ice helps some compared to the high delay of a nak or armor.I have beaten quite a few armor players around with ice.But when u go up against a GOOD armor player that hits u wherever whenever with an ss or a dual+ u gotta watch out. They are very hard to beat.Back when I was using mage I fought this chick who said he was in cbchui's army and he was quite a skilled armor player and I beat him a couple times but he won the majority of the time and I ended up having to switch to armor myself.

yeah, having higher delay is sort of overrated.  Items, slight intangibles like having to walk to regain angle or wasting time calculating, etc.. can render many delay advantages meaningless.  Early in the match, 90% of the time if I open with shot 1, the opponent will get 2 turns in a row on me, but then I will get 2 turns in a row on them.  So at the end of 5 turns it's armor 3 hits, enemy 2.

Where it really hurts is when someone stupidly duals when delay is about even, that is when someone can get 3 turns in a row on armor.  I consider eating 2 turns in a row a natural occurrence with armor, not really a fuckup.  It's just bound to happen even if you play the safest shot possible.  Later you will steal back the extra turn so I don't stress over it.

But 3 turns in a row... that's a genuine fuckup.  It means a poor decision and/or wasting too much time measuring, moving, or whatever.

Yesterday, I was playing 2 x2. I had Ice/Turtle, and my teammate had Ice/Cake. We were playing against Aduka/A.Sate and Aduka/Nak. Needless to say, we won. Ice is just good against Aduka, even though Lasers PWN Ice. In the end, that tiny defense lowering thingy made a difference.
