Title: Something that bothers me...
Post by: CommunistBus on May 25, 2004, 06:03 AM
So I was browseing the gunbound rooms earlier, and I come across a 1v1 called "nub only" or something to that effect. I go in with my Silver B.Axe account and theres a wand sitting on team A with a boomer and only duals enabled, metamine. I was then kicked out. After that I was kicked out of three or four other 1v1 games where the opponent was a higher rank than me.

I'm not saying play against noobs is bad, cuz when no one's on to play with and I make a 1v1 game, 90% of the people who join are noobs. But come on, why kick everyone who poses even a slight threat? It's like someone going around and challenging babies to a spelling contest or something, and when a toddler comes along, they run.

Are they that worried that they might get a loss? I don't understand... If they do it for easy gold, they probably have to wait close to 10 minutes between each game waiting to find a noob who's willing to play a wand. That's about 400 Gold every 10 minutes. If they would just play they would get so much more it doesn't make sense....

Sigh, ok just had to get that out. It's been bothering me.

"kiasu" (noun) kee-ah-su : the fear of losing. slang.

often very illogical phobia, i might add. hence, the bothersome thing.

I would not worry about that.  Most of the people who do that are just those who want to win battle against noobs very easy.  If you want to play a real 1v1 game and you are a high rank.  All you have to do is to go onto the high rank server and make a 1v1 room there.

WOOOT,
The last time I went to avatar on, all a saw was stacking whores who probably used ebay to get those accounts, its just sad what people will do to get that extra feeling of superiority.  Props to all who play in avatar off.

My favorite settins are avatar off, random mobile, random map, all items on. That way, its about as fair as it's gonna get.

You migth say I have an advantage because there are the settings I'm used to, but it's a whole lot better than people who put their best map on, disable every item they don't use, and only play vs people with less stats.

The reason I don't like the stat suit is you're either playing with an advantage over someone or on an equal playing field with them. (Unless they have a bunge suit I guess, but Im reffering to the standard clone suit).

That and I look cool.

Try having an avatar off game with no items!! Takes a while, but stradegy is at its fullest.

Honestly, I do that all the times. It's how I beat noobs for money. Very quick games on avatar off server 12.

It's no longer a wand now. Personally, I kick anyone who's above gold axe just to ensure I get win.

Thats actually what I had players do in the Final Match in a tournament I held this weekend. It was an awesome match, but the loser was completely decimated.

meh...i'm a wand......imagine the times i get kicked out of rooms....whats really fun and lets me cool off a bit is i take my old acct with its space marine suit, go into avatar, and kills those 1v1 stat clones with lightning....they can't handle it when i move around the map...and miss more often than not...its a good way to relieve my anger...

Gah here's something else people do. I don't wanna make a whole new topic so I'll just reply here.

I go into 1v1 games called Random Only or something like that. I pick random, and they switch to boomer or a sate or something real fast. Now it doesn't bother me that I randomed and they didn't. That's how I always play. What bothers me is that they resort to trickery to give themself and advantage. Another thing is creating a jewel game, I go in and pick my jewel items (dual+ blood blood blood shovel), and they switch it to solo and start. Again I'm not mad that its solo, but the fact that they are using stupid tricks to try to win.  The worst part is, half the time I'm expecting them to do it and I'm surprised when they don't.

I need to feel the playing field was completely even to get the full sense of victory when I win. Oh well it just makes it that much better when I do win because I beat them on their settings  :D

I know how you feel. I'm a major 1on1er, and have been kicked countless times by wands. It's pretty ridiculous how someone at least 3 ranks and several thousand gp higher than me can be frightened by a mere Silver Battleaxe+. I have never kicked someone before or left, unless they were hackers.

Also, that's where playing with friends comes in.

If they use any sort of trickery, I leave in the loading lobby, thus crashing their room. It hurts when they have a good number.

yeah...those asses that either turn on or off items at the last minute, like they'd have a dual dual+ and tele on, and right before starting, they turn dual+ off...so everyone who packed it is just screwed as they might have only a dual left...i personally like dual+ better and it really puts me at a disadvantage...

True, but think of how fun it would be to do that when you have the key and a bunch of statwhores come in, and before you start, you get rid of all the items

They would be like

*wtf, why did you do that, noob*

you're evil..:)  however, i am tempted to do that now...just disable dual at the last minute, and watch them all cry...well...maybe someday...when i'm sufficiently bored/pissed off..

When you disable an item, the game does not allow you to start imediatly. It gives enough time for people to see it and unready. Sometimes people are careless and don't watch though.

Many times I have been called a hacker because i enable/disable the wind changer so that I don't get kicked when everyone else is ready.  They all have duals and teles so they don't see the wind changer going off and on.

Another worst-case scenarion is a 1 on 1 room titled "Aduka Only". When you select aduka and ready, they'll change to a more advantageous mobile(90% of the time a.sate). I don't think that can or has been patched yet.

Absolutely CommunistBust, I do that too. What I typically do if my friend hasn't shown up yet is to turn on heals. People start leaving or complaining so fast that your friend definately gets a spot in the game.

I agree, people who complain about heals are morons. I was playing a game with trico earlier, and this guy enters the room.

"Turn off heals" he says. So I tell him he's an idiot and should visit the mental asylum. "I am your brain, idiot" he replies viciously. "Move your cursor over the heal icon and right click." So I kick him.

The way he talked certainly pissed me.

The problem now with that is that the heal phenomenon is getting owned. If I select heals and it's a 4v4 game, they'll make me kick until I give up the key and then turn of heals themselves, it's really an overwhelming majority who want heals.

QuoteBut come on, why kick everyone who poses even a slight threat? It's like someone going around and challenging babies to a spelling contest or something, and when a toddler comes along, they run.
Greatest comparison ever.

Anyway, I completely understand, that's why the only time I play GB anymore is when I can get a few friends together for a game.  (Avatar Off, usually all items on, random map, mobile of your choice).  Fun stuff.  Especially since it's all friends, so we can make fun of each other to no end no matter what happens :D

Nothing quite beats making fun of Andrew for not only a shot, but for incompetence as well.

In summary, I hate everyone.

If you're with friends, passing the key among them is a great tactic, pissing off the key stealers. Even two people are enough for this.

Yeah, heal-haters suck. They are one of the most numerous idiots I encounter every day.

A list of complaints I've assembled.

"wtf heal"

"heal iz gay"

"killabunny...can off heal?"

"Right click on the heal icon with your cursor."

"lol heal"

"noob turn off heal lahz"

"so high rank still on heal"

"heal AHAHAHAHA"

"off heal plz"

Well, when they say that, ask them this question,"What? Are you scared of a wimpy heal?? If you don't like it, dont use it." This works most of the time...and the guy will either say,"its cheating/not fair" or "noob/(swear word)" and leave. It is as simple as that. B)

lol heh heh I get kicekd all the time in avatar off zones, maybe its because my avatar looks sexy? (wing helmet, arch angel, emerald stick)... so I most of the time play 1 v 1 games naked, wearing stuff gets me kicked.......

even when I am naked, the same thing that happens to communistBus happens to me, oh and my rank? ... double sided metal axe plus *gasp* -_-
