okay...i had a free hours today where i didn't have anything to do and didn't feel like playing gb. so instead i pondered upon the ranking system we currently have....i reached blue wand today and realized that its a long ass way to my next rank up.
anyways....i know that softnyx is already riddled with problems they have to solve, and chances are a new ranking system won't be implemented any time soon. but hey, other people come up with new avatars and mobiles...i came up with this....
basically, it would use the current gp ranking system, however, I am changing the way on how to gain your gp so that its more dependent on your skills, and much less dependent on just the pure amount of games you play.
here is what would be changed...basically
*no more gp for kills, the ability to turn around and shotgun someone when they're low on health does not prove you're a good player, i'd take away the money bonus too. its a team game, you'd get more money for winning then.
*more gp bonuses for amount of damage done. i know we already get 1, 2, and 4, respectively, and i'm not saying we should get alot more...but maybe 2, 4, 6? the ability to deal more damage ultimately says more about your skills and aiming abilities than kills would.
*only other way to gain gp is through winning games, and this is pretty complex, so i'll try to be as clear as possible. your rank and what your opponents rank would deteremine the amount of gp you get. ranks would be tiered and gp earned would go down as you battle people lower than you. lets say the tier was set at four ranks, decent amount, if i'm a blue wand, and i fight a GBA, he's 3 ranks below me, i would get the 3 gp you normally get, but say i fought a SBA, he's 5 ranks below me, i would only get 2 gp, and maybe the next tier is only 3 ranks, so if i fought a battle axe, i'd only get 1gp, and anything below that doesn't result in gp at all. this would put an end to all the botters, as this would making botting worthless...
*for more than 1v1 games, say a 4v4 game, you'd get your respected amount of gp according to each of your oppoent's rank, thus, you get more for fighting higher rankers, and this would eliminate most stackers. if they're counting on stacking to win games and rank up, screw them, i stack too...but its mostly with friends, and then,i really don't care about gp, just playiing to have some fun.
*i said earlier that i think damage is more an indicator of skill than than kills, yes, i do realize shotgunning and some other things don't take skills either, but there needs to be some sort of measurement, and gp gaining would factor in the damage you did during the game, and that divided by 1000 would be a gp multiplier, say i got 2k damage bonus, and then some more, maybe 2350 damage total, i'd just multiply what i'd normally earn from my game with 2.35, and that would be my final gp. this would solve some problems like when i'm playing and some idiot comes and joins on my team simply because he thinks he can ride a pro's skills to winning some easy gp and money, well, if he does poorly in the game and gets only maybe 3 hits in totalling 450 damage, well, his gp just got halved. okay, and i forgot, the damage multiplier would be capped at 3. since damage bonus is capped there too.
*as long as we're on gp, why not change the money system a bit too, same with gp, you get more for beating people closer to your rank, and they'll trail down as the ranks get lower, until you get nothing for beating up noobs, and i may go as far as saying getting rid of all those stupid bonuses for trick shots, make it one bonus, a "trick shot" bonus that gives you like 15 or 20 gold. so no more 30 secs turns waiting for that damn boomer UHA, or the grubs high angling and missing everywhere...
i also realize that dragons have 3 ranks themselves and only contain a handful of people, so maybe they'd be just considered 1 tier instead of 3, to make gp gaining a bit easier for them. hell, we could implement this system right now and not change anyone's rank....eventually, they'll even out themselves, as the high rankers who rely on stacking or botting will eventually fall behind. hmm...oh well....sorry for the EXTREMELY long post, and there is prolly a few things i've missed, since it has been a couple hours since i was thinking about this. i'll add anything if i remember it. feel free to comment, flame, tear it apart...whatever...:)
I kind of like that idea in some ways, because for one, it would greatly balance out people trying to beat the hell out of new players.
I play pogo games once in a while, and some of them are the same way, if youplay someone with a lower rank, you get less "rank points" as if you were playing and beat someone the same rank range as you or more if higher.
This also has potential for abuse. You create a new account and get your high rank friends to just stand there and skip turns/healing until oblivion.
Of course, everything can be abused, and this is a nice system. Kudos.
Your idea would be more effective if there were more rank-partitioned zones, so it wouldn't take 2 hours just to find a game with people of decent rank, especially with the recent influx of noobs in the av off zones.
I don't think there should be a case where you can get no GP at all though. Sometimes, it's just too hard to find games with non-low rankers. Variable GP rates would be a very good addition though.
This won't stop the botters at all. >.>
So instead of using their high rank bot to hit a deadstick noob account bot they'll just do it the other way around, having the noob hitting the high rank. This system will only result in lots more high rank botters and make it hard to level up for the rest of us.
Regarding the stuff about 1000, 2000, and 3000. That's y gb staff banned ice tag. They dont want u earn so much money in 1v1.
I will not surprise that they might ban aduka shot 2/ SS game later on. (But I oppose this idea)

There's a big difference between Ice Tag and Aduka games. In ice tag, the point is to take turns healing and killing eachother. That's basically rigging the game. In aduka games, it's just a huge melee. Anyone can win.

okay, yeah, i know that this isn't gonna stop all the botters, no matter what the design, there is gonna always be people who find and abuse the loopholes, yeah still...what you said didn't make much sense, if some is already a diamond dragon or some other high rank....the only reason he'd ever bot another chick acct is to get it high enough in the ranks to bot it against his best account. and i did forget a point last night..
*gp loss for SUICIDES would go up, yes....oddity might hate that, hehe... also make it so GP is lost if someone leaves the game midgame,( at this point, i'm gonna assume softnyx has fixed all the netcode, and can think about changing the rank system) so pretty much if botters are botting, they'll first have to do alot of prep work to even get bots up high enough. then they'll have to deal with this. i know this won't stop them but it will make their lives much harder than now...which pretty much consists of creating one acct, bot against it, and gain loads of gp. this also gives softnyx a much longer time to catch those botters, they can just delete the botter's bots and the botters will have to start all over again, and they can't openly complain, as that will just incriminate them further.
i know this system isn't perfect, its far from it. but at least i think its better than our current one.
*edit, just as a clarification, a noob beating a wand doesn't mean it gets like 20 gp or anything...it still gets the normal 3gp. the tiers only work going down...not up.
 dude your idea rox. guys don't complain about something that is in theroy com' on. well for my opion i love the idea of the n00bs not getting the crap beaten out of them. i am only like a silver ax and i join a server and BAM battle axs and a hole on one and they kick every chance of a threat away...i hate that....anyway i do have one correction though -----> i think that changing the 1,2, and 4 thing to 2,4,6 is a lame idea. just change the stats of each attack...it will make the adjustment to the new system a little less hecktic i think. only change what needs to be changed. well i hope i helped...oh one more thing all power to your idea Griever because u r doing what my most don't....most people state the problem and never an answer. u are giving an answer and that is awsome! W007!

Make gunbound playing only assceible to players of same ranks eg:
Chicks: Zone 1
Axes : Zone 2
Double Sided Axes:Zone 3
Wands:Zone 4
Dragons:Zone 5....
so the're be less chance of pple botting, since only pple of same ranks can play together....but i don't really think its a gd idea...seperates pple alot...
that would be good, but only if noobs could not get into the higher servers. you only get 5 kicks, and if you had to kick everyone lower than you, you would lose the key really fast. for some reason, noobs want to stay in otherwise pro games, and this would give them more incentive. I cannot count the times a try to set up an all-clone-gear 3v3, and naked noobs, or silver axes with attack suits and no defense join the game. i have used all my kicks and ask them to leave. instead they just ready up and pretend they have no idea what the hell is going on. if they could gain more gp/gold by killing high rankers, they would be more apt to stay, because they cannot comprehend that fact that they are putting themselves and thier team in a distinct disadvantage by staying in the game.
also, i am a gold battle axe, and i can beat higher levels (ruby/diamond wands) and i enjoy playing against them. if this system was in use, i could never play against people like that, because there would be a disadvantage for them playing against me. many of the people in my guild, as well as many of my friends, are more than 3 levels away from me, so i could not play with them either, or one of us would get almost no gp/gold.
restricting play to just people of your rank would far lessen the playing field, and make it harder to find a game, as if it was not hard enough now...
it would just make GB less fun than it is already...
Zyad and Griever- either idea will never work... im sorry. How fair are you being to dragons? restricting them to playing with 21 other ppl? Or getting 4gp for playing an all wand team? A friend of mine is a dragon and he works HARD at mainting his rank. Put yourself in their shoes. How would you feel if you were restriced to only playing with 21 ppl or got 4gp for winning a 4v4 game with all wands. :( they may be high ranks guys... but MOST of them are ppl too :)

Like it or not the core problem with Gunbound has little to do with the GP system, and more to do with how games are setup.
It is nearly impossible to get players of like levels of skill together, and GP has little to no relation to skill as it is. These are the core problems, and while the solution you give may fix the latter to a certain, limited, extent, it won't fix the former at ALL. Mind you you would have to wipe a good number of existing GP for it to be worth a damn, and then you have to realize that 'steadily marching forward' GP-wise makes it so skill doesn't mean jack, only time. The incentives may be there, but the system doesn't work well with it.
If you want to fix the system then you have to make it easier for players of equivalent levels of skill to match each other. Period. There can be no other true solution.
mauvecow's right. Even myself i find more games playing noobs then good players. As they usually leave to find a game where it's random stacking playing noobs for fast and easy gp. the only time it's usually a good game is a guild match or just friends having fun. it's bad when you find the higher ranks are usually worse players then the low lvl wands/high b axes. i mean i played a few diamond wands/dragons (not mentioning names for privacy) who are just blatently ebayd/botted accounts. now why would you want to be a high rank with no skill, it just makes you look like an obvious abuser of the system. and no matter how they change the system cheaters will allways find a away around it. take the COUNTLESS diabloII patches for example. And if they're botting for ranks so they can be known as a pro that doesn't work with most peoples feelings. I consider pros ppl with good attitudes that rarely miss and know how to be a team player.

The ranking system IS about how much you've played... They're not gonna make a never-evolving date based ranking system, but a system where people are ranked depending on how long they've been playing, or rather, how many games they've played... I don't see anything wrong with it, besides, those morons who are struggling to be high ranks will have quite a surprise when they reach wand...
i agree with the statement above my speech. but people expect too much from high levels. Im a pretty high level rank(blue hole) and people expect me to be some kind of superman. I stopped playing avatar on because it was getting lame with all the same sets and long azz games. So i play avatar off since january. In avatar off, rank doesnt mean very much. Everybody has equal stats. But some pple still expects wands and dragons to be some kind of superman. I got attaccked with asates SS Triple Teamed and i died without even a turn. and pple call me noob cuz i died from it. Also if i miss 2 shots in the game they automatically call me a noob. Also if i save a person by ksing them they call me ksing noob. like statement said above a pro is a good team player, who sets out good strategy, and lands shots at clutch timing. That's what a pro is.

Indeed. Unfortunately the 'ever rising rank' is part of what addicts people, along with things like accumulating gold and such. Honestly, I wonder how many people are more interested in the long-term metagame than the actual game itself.. Considering how many there are wearing money suits and doing stupid money shots all game long.
The best solution they could have, without totally revamping the matching system a hundred times over, is simply to have several grades of servers, all rank limited with both a minimum and maximum, and an overlap buffer zone so people could see the difference for themselves.(ie: A zone that is metal battle axe -> gold battle axe+, and then another zone that's GBA+ -> Dragons) Change the way it works so that losing - any loss - reduces GP level slightly, and it should work fine. People will stay in a sort of equilibrium at their appropriate rank.
Of course, then you'd have to have free zones that everyone could play in where you gain about half to one third the normal GP/G level, or perhaps less, due to the obvious imbalancement problems we are having now. Probably only one of these would be enough.
But this is really pointless as Softnyx isn't going to do jack squat so we'd better get used to the fact that these numbers don't exist for any purpose other than addiction value.
As with any sort of system, there will be its faults. Though implementing a new ranking system may be a good idea, there are too many problems that basing earning gp on rank causes which makes me not want it.
Yes, reducing gp for wands/dragons to beat up on chicks and hammers would reduce the number of botters, but how about those high ranks who play fairly and legit? Yes, they should play people who are their own ranks, but the higher up someone is in ranking, the fewer there are people of the same rank. There are only 21 dragons, 100+ diamond wands, 900 ruby wands..but there are easily 500,000 metal axes, hammers, and chicks. So finding people of near the same rank to play against just to get 'normal' gp (based on this rank system) seems to get increasingly difficult for the higher ranks.
Also, you can easily find some faults in this method.
In avatar on, there are countless people who have put a full clone set on a new noob account. Sometimes, the person is a real noob, only with the clone set, while others, it's a pro using a second account. How would it benefit the team of Battle Axes, Wands and Dragons to play a pro wearing the same avatar as them, on a lower ranked account? I play avatar on half of the time, and I find it extremely boring to have to play against a team of 50 defence clones for 30 mins just to earn a measly 10-12 gp. So let's suppose that my team is all wands, wearing typical clone gear, and the other team is composed of pros, posing as chicks, wearing all clone gear as well. Is there any benefit to my team, to play these pros on second accounts, with the same avatar, but are ranked on the other end of the spectrum for 30 mins just to earn what? 6 gp? Where the hell is the fun in that? 30 mins to play a game, and I'm not even able to earn 'normal' gp? But of course, if they win, they get full (or more) gp.
This also applies to those who play avatar off. Fake noobs are like the ocean, they're everywhere. Since there is no difference in stats, anyone can create a new account, jump into a room of wands and dragons, and beat them, with no sort of drawbacks, whereas the wands and dragons only make half or less of the gp. I don't see how it's fair for someone to play their wand account and lose games where they have no clear cut advantage, yet are handicapped if they win. There have been several instances where I'll hop on a chick account, play avatar off and make fun of all the high rankers, but it's not fair to them because they only make half of the gp because I'm a 'lower rank' than them (when in reality I'm probably not).
So while changing the gp based on rank makes SOME sense, it isn't fair to everyone, and it also takes out any incentive to being a high rank because there are less of them and it hadicaps them from playing anyone who wishes to play against them, whether they are a real noob or not.
Basically, what im trying to say is what we already knew, RANK MEANS NOTHING and while altering gp may weed out some botters (or at least make it harder for them to bot) it still doesn't create a fair gaming experience for those who do play legit, for the reasons I stated above.
