Wait, this all happened in your CD-ROM? Or outside of it.

O.o maybe someone dropped it or smashed it accidently...... is it possible for cds to overheat and explode

Dreamcatcher

This all happend inside the drive, almost like my cd went through a shredder, maybe the cd got too hot??

Tooya

Did you use a marker on it at all?  I have heard... that if you used certain types of writing utentials on cds (heavier ink...) that as the cd is spinning it gets lopsided, cause it to get damaged.  Maybe this is an old wives tale, but the theory sounds reasonable to me...

There are video clips of cds heating up and exploding out of the cd-rom front bezel 0_0
The cd shattering and exploding should only result from incredibley frequent/harsh use (like leaving it playing for hours on end),  furthermore the cd would probably had to of been damaged (cracked) or it was just a low grade media used to manufacture that cd.
Sometimes burning low quality cds at high speeds can cause the disc to warp and shatter.

Scary Fact: did you know they sell cd-rom / cd-rw drives with reinforced bezels? ;>_>
like I really hope I wouldn't need one.

It must of sounded like armageddon inside your cd drive x_x
You probably want to check your cd drive....or remove it and try to clean any loose shards,  as to prevent further damage to other cds.  Just hope the shattering of the disc didn't destroy your drive.

The CD spun too fast and poped from the friction (heat) and you fail. I have lost a few CD's to this evil way.

ive seen on tv shows/clips of cd's spinning to fast and cracking :/

Ever seen the show Myth Breakers? They had a show about CDs shattering in the drive. They couldn't get it to happen until they rigged up to spin at an immense speed - Way above that of any CD-ROM drive. They tried many different things such as writing on the CD, cracking it, heating it up. The conclusion was that it doesn't happen unless you really really want it to. My guess would be that it was broken/warped prior to entry. Having a CD in direct sunlight or just in a hot area can cause it to warp.

how long did they run it for?  over longer periods of time, the cd material probably gets weaker and more inclined to fracture.
