I wish there were more games out there like Earthbound from SNES. It's so--not serious and goofy and yet still manages to maintain a cool story and many other RPG-esque traits. So the question is-- what did you guys think about it?

I recently played it through again, this time on an emulator on my laptop and guess what? For the first time ever I got Jeff's ultimate weapon, the Gaia Beam--which is made from the broken antenna. Keep in mind I've played this game like 30 times at least--no exaggeration. Who woulda thought that the Uncontrollable Sphere was holding such a great secret!?

I loved this game.  Everything from The Runaway Five to Mr. Saturn to Prince Poo.  It was a very well done game.  I think it was the first time I played a game where you used phones and ATMs to save and bank.  Then there were the little things like the bicycle and buying teddy bears to tank.

Do you remember the advertising for this game?  Nintendo had scratch-and-sniff inserts in magazines that smelled AWFUL.  I played it again two years ago and got more of the grown up jokes this time around when I first played it.

Really great game if you like RPG satire and colorful dialouge.

YAY FOR EARTHBOUND! Industries should make more games like that. It was so kiddy yet so hard and cool. I loved the starmans, the funny characters and all. Too bad it won't happen since they always aim mature public X(

Oh God was EarthBound good...... I loved it.. soo soo amazing

Heres some other snes games to try =P

Terrangima
Robotrek
Obviously the FF Games if you haven't come around to them
Chrono Trigger
Super Mario RPG
Legend of Zelda: Link to the past
Evo-  The Search for Eden
Tokimeki Memorial (if your in a funky mood, try it!)

These are all games that made me cry, I am completely serious.  There was something strong and unique about these games, they had something so spectacular.... it is very rare to find in a game these days.  Disregarding the newer Final Fantasy games and Pokemon, there was no other game that made me feel so melancholic..... its hard to describe what I am talking about.. but I am positive a good amount of you understand.

Hahah I REMEMBER THAT!!!

I remember playing this back when I was like in second or third grade.

It was such a great game. It's roxor.

Wow!  You remembered this title?  I still own it (Earthbound too).  I thought it was so creative.  Enix was pretty good with innovation for a while there.

I liked becoming a horned rabbit with tiger fangs, or being a dinosaur and escaping extinction.  The human was.. okay, but they should've given us more humanoid options other than large and small, like the yeti or birdmen already in the game.

Yeah. Its rare to find perfect RPG's nowadays. The FF series got worse after the 7th one. After Aries got killed for apparently no good reason. Look at the ending, you'd prolly agree.

Even as someone who enjoys the original FF games, I can debate you on this one. I won't go into it, but it's actually a lot deeper than "Aeris just dies to piss you off".
Random fact about Vin Diesel:  Vin Diesel once cooked 400 tons of chicken noodle soup for the needy but then drank all but 1 in a bet with Samuel L. Jackson.

Yes, sometimes it's about cute guys that look like David Bowie and monkey tails.   :D:   Yay for David Bowie!  Hooray for The Goblin King!

Honestly I never really tried the Playstation generation FF games (outside of Tactics).

I think her death had reason enough to it.  If you have ANY complaints what-so-ever on Final Fantasy 7 then you should be shot (but still living), be thrown in a Syberian jail for 25 years, then thrown in the streets of the Phillipines and live life as a prostitute.

Yes her death was sad, but Hell it moved quite smoothly with the plot.  And to say the FF series got worse is just as bad.

Final Fantasy 8
Great game, love the love story, graphics, and even the complex magic system (which many people failed to understand how to use sadly)

Final Fantasy 9
Awesome game, love the love story, graphics were unique and brought back memories, and had many side aspects to the game that made it not so linear.

Final Fantasy Tactics
Do I really have to comment on this one?

Final Fantasy X
Here we can say the graphics and voiceing was the dominant aspect of the game, check minus (but still good for a go or two)

Final Fantasy X-II
*cough* sex appeal *cough*

And on a side note, I forgot to mention  Lufia II.... now that was a fun game.

Okay, let me take a stab at this one, only this time, with my opinion:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FF8: Boring story, terrible magic system (for us perfectionists), unlikeable main character.

FF9: Roxxor.

FF10: Roxxor+. The characters having voices. The sphere grid. The story. omg so cool.

FF11: Disgrace. (It's okay, all MMORPGs are)

FFX2: Just started it...seems cool enough.

FF6/FF3: Best magic system ever, awesome character development, great story.

FF4/FF2: For it's time, it was quite possibly flawless.

FF7: Believe it or not...dare I even say this...I think this is the worst final fantasy out of the series...the game somehow became connected in my mind with monotanous boring music and sleepyness.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lol at the Happy-Happyism going around.

::Wants to try Terranigma::

I just wanted to say.. Final Fantasy 7 is one of the best games I've ever played. It's wonderful, in fact I was starting on a new character the other day. The materia system is insanely good. The story.. yum.

FF6 too, is great! I enjoyed FF9, but not FF8. FF4 gets a thumb up ^_^b

Chrono Trigger is a class on it's own. It's beyond games, it's OMG-great!

Secret of mana kicks ass if you find someone to play with :)

Super Mario RPG is fun (: Paper Mario was easier, but entertaining. I'll buy paper mario 2 for suire

Capnkj2

yes, chrono trigger is definitely in a league of it's own.
yes, secret of mana rocks with other people. (or secret of evermore by yourself)
yes, super mario rpg rocks. (Timed Hits anyone?)

Forgot about those ones for my list of SNES cartridges--- add all of the above mentioned to it.
