I think someone said map design contest... I asked a few people and that one seemed popular... we could use a couple new maps ;) hint hint

I'm thinking of a skill-based puzzle event on a dedicated server:

Setup: Random Map, Random Mobiles, any items, any death, 3v3 or 4v4.

Target:
A floating stationary target board (mobile sized) that
-  teleports randomly to any spot on the map every turn, both airborne and on land.
-  Target has unknown HP that doesn't regenerate.
-  Respawns after being destroyed.
-  Target cannot be bunged.

Objective: Regardless of HP inflicted, only team that produces the killing shot scores the points for the Target. Be the first team to destroy 3000 HP worth of target boards.

Winning team members get a puzzle piece.

Prize: A 'Sharpshooter' Avatar, probrably a (sniper rifle).
<--- Rarely on cos I'm playing Anarchy Online now.

Moving free board to forum is good but u need huge amount of webspace. And u get constantly spammed by off-topics, site promotion, trade, and hacks msg. Even 5 mods couldn't handle that much amount of workload.

I think an event that requires playing is more hot than a drawing/quizzing/outside event.

Thats why you make the skin mostly color-based with simplistic and small graphics. Saves webspace =P
PhpBB2 is probably the best forum type if webspace is an issue. Secure, huge amount of modifications, low filesize, etc. On my old fansite I had, I hardly went through 1-2mb bandwith every 2,000 hits.

from Halo, but might work, Halo's game mode called Odd Ball, pretty much for X amount of turns someone is "it" if the person is not destroyed by that time, you give X punishment or it can just be whoever hits the person that "it" more, and set the game for like 10 mins or however. this is semi-fun because your not restricted to hitting everyone one the other team =D

Okay, this is GUNBOUND we're talking about here. If they didn't have very much webspace, the game wouldn't exist. Think for a minute.

On topic: The puzzle event from last year was cool, but maybe something like 1 out of every 20 puzzle peices gives you an avatar (like just the helmet, armor, or flag), on top of getting the set for completing the puzzle. Might be interesting.

I'm thinking bandwith and loading time efficiency. Gunbound.net loads somewhat slow because of its location and the amount of people viewing it. Adding a full-image vBull or invision board (the only two other real choices when it comes to security and modifications) would be hell on 56k users, and very slow for dsl/cable or higher users =P

I bet they could handle the space, but load times would be an issue because it is international. My last phpbb2-based forum was under 1.2mb total, including images and database. Most invisions run in the 8-15mb range, and vBull runs way high (I don't have exact numbers, been a while since I used it. I think its like 20mb). All three look great (vBull's and invisions tend to look better, because more people make actual non-recolor/image skins for them, but with minimal html knowledge and php knowledge, you can make your own skin and make them the same.) As for features, vBull is #1, but invision and phpbb2 have loads of mods/hacks made for them to have the same features with less space needed. phpBB2 is also free (no issue to GIS, I would believe) but it supports open-source, and open source kicks arse. Most people see phpBB2 as newbish, but that's because the phpbb2's they go to are unmodified... The only real diff is stock features, filesize, and security. vBull is the most secure, I would say, but there are third-party security patches that make invision and phpbb2 equal or greater =P

There are other good boards I didn't mention, but that is because they are insecure, uncommon (little to no pre-made mods =X) or inefficient. Or I forgot =P GIS can choose whatever they like, but I support phpBB2 for gunbound, due to the fact that loading time is critical. You can get a phpbb2 under 1mb if you use a few banners, and ofcourse icons and buttons like the reply buttons here, but you make all gradients 1pixel wide and have them tile and you use flat colors with html code for the normal stuff and can get tiny load times. Problem with phpbb2 is that some pre-made scripts have a hard time with compatability with others, but it's all fixable =P As for databases, I know vBull and phpBB2 support quite a few kinds of databases, but I'm not sure on invision, never looked into it since i had mySQL on the server I tried it on. Then again, thats not the issue here =P

Anyways, to the other part of the topic:
I like 404error's idea on the puzzle event. This time, make it on the maps or something, so people don't always choose the maps they like, and spread out a little. Also, if you do a mobile event, make it only work on 3v3 and 4v4 or something, so people don't play hours of 1v1 to get pieces. or maybe, a few different pieces for each game type :P

Ooh, I've got one that isn't just an addition suggestion.

God Battle Mode (Based on Pockethouse Comics):
Both teams battle a giant version of a mobile. The Giant Mobile has 2 times the attack power, and has way less delay than a normal mobile. They also have 2 times the HP. Both teams shoot at the Giant Mobile. The team that kills it gets a card of the mobile killed. The Giant Mobile is randomly selected. Any human player that is killed cannot come back, but can drop stuff on the Giant Mobile or opposing team. The game doesn't end until the God Mobile or both teams are dead. Shots from the same type of mobile do extra damage. (IE, a Nak would do more damage to the Nak God than to the Turtle God)

Ok, fist off, since christmas is coming up, why not swap out Dragon and Knight for some ......holiday vehicles. Like for Knight, you could put in Rudolph (that damned red nose menace), but instead of swords, you could do some sort of horns or something. Dragon, on the other hand, you could do Santa's hovering sleigh, firing off gifts that, when they hit, explode (Ok, maybe someone could thing of something more.....santa like...). The rarity of these vehicles on Random would be about twice those of Dragon/Knight, BUT, if they do get them, they would get a random ticket with a 5-digit number (somehow, like on their account or something). And you may have to let this event go for about a month so people can rack up the tickets, but, at the end of the event, you hold some sort of raffle/drawing for rare/event avatars, either new or old, and/or gold. I dunno, just a suggestion for a holiday event, it could work...

Christmas event.

Must be metal axe+ (to prevent new accounts)

You have a 99% chance of getting a Red Nose, 1% chance of getting a random item 100k+.
