i agree with the statement above my speech.  but people expect too much from high levels.  Im a pretty high level rank(blue hole) and people expect me to be some kind of superman.  I stopped playing avatar on because it was getting lame with all the same sets and long azz games.  So i play avatar off since january.  In avatar off, rank doesnt mean very much.  Everybody has equal stats.  But some pple still expects wands and dragons to be some kind of superman.  I got attaccked with asates SS Triple Teamed and i died without even a turn.  and pple call me noob cuz i died from it.  Also if i miss 2 shots in the game they automatically call me a noob.  Also if i save a person by ksing them they call me ksing noob.  like statement said above a pro is a good team player, who sets out good strategy, and lands shots at clutch timing.  That's what a pro is.

QuoteThe ranking system IS about how much you've played... They're not gonna make a never-evolving date based ranking system, but a system where people are ranked depending on how long they've been playing, or rather, how many games they've played... I don't see anything wrong with it, besides, those morons who are struggling to be high ranks will have quite a surprise when they reach wand...
Indeed. Unfortunately the 'ever rising rank' is part of what addicts people, along with things like accumulating gold and such. Honestly, I wonder how many people are more interested in the long-term metagame than the actual game itself.. Considering how many there are wearing money suits and doing stupid money shots all game long.

The best solution they could have, without totally revamping the matching system a hundred times over, is simply to have several grades of servers, all rank limited with both a minimum and maximum, and an overlap buffer zone so people could see the difference for themselves.(ie: A zone that is metal battle axe -> gold battle axe+, and then another zone that's GBA+ -> Dragons) Change the way it works so that losing - any loss - reduces GP level slightly, and it should work fine. People will stay in a sort of equilibrium at their appropriate rank.

Of course, then you'd have to have free zones that everyone could play in where you gain about half to one third the normal GP/G level, or perhaps less, due to the obvious imbalancement problems we are having now. Probably only one of these would be enough.

But this is really pointless as Softnyx isn't going to do jack squat so we'd better get used to the fact that these numbers don't exist for any purpose other than addiction value.

As with any sort of system, there will be its faults. Though implementing a new ranking system may be a good idea, there are too many problems that basing earning gp on rank causes which makes me not want it.

Yes, reducing gp for wands/dragons to beat up on chicks and hammers would reduce the number of botters, but how about those high ranks who play fairly and legit? Yes, they should play people who are their own ranks, but the higher up someone is in ranking, the fewer there are people of the same rank. There are only 21 dragons, 100+ diamond wands, 900 ruby wands..but there are easily 500,000 metal axes, hammers, and chicks. So finding people of near the same rank to play against just to get 'normal' gp (based on this rank system) seems to get increasingly difficult for the higher ranks.

Also, you can easily find some faults in this method.

In avatar on, there are countless people who have put a full clone set on a new noob account. Sometimes, the person is a real noob, only with the clone set, while others, it's a pro using a second account. How would it benefit the team of Battle Axes, Wands and Dragons to play a pro wearing the same avatar as them, on a lower ranked account? I play avatar on half of the time, and I find it extremely boring to have to play against a team of 50 defence clones for 30 mins just to earn a measly 10-12 gp. So let's suppose that my team is all wands, wearing typical clone gear, and the other team is composed of pros, posing as chicks, wearing all clone gear as well. Is there any benefit to my team, to play these pros on second accounts, with the same avatar, but are ranked on the other end of the spectrum for 30 mins just to earn what? 6 gp? Where the hell is the fun in that? 30 mins to play a game, and I'm not even able to earn 'normal' gp? But of course, if they win, they get full (or more) gp.

This also applies to those who play avatar off. Fake noobs are like the ocean, they're everywhere. Since there is no difference in stats, anyone can create a new account, jump into a room of wands and dragons, and beat them, with no sort of drawbacks, whereas the wands and dragons only make half or less of the gp. I don't see how it's fair for someone to play their wand account and lose games where they have no clear cut advantage, yet are handicapped if they win. There have been several instances where I'll hop on a chick account, play avatar off and make fun of all the high rankers, but it's not fair to them because they only make half of the gp because I'm a 'lower rank' than them (when in reality I'm probably not).

So while changing the gp based on rank makes SOME sense, it isn't fair to everyone, and it also takes out any incentive to being a high rank because there are less of them and it hadicaps them from playing anyone who wishes to play against them, whether they are a real noob or not.

Basically, what im trying to say is what we already knew, RANK MEANS NOTHING and while altering gp may weed out some botters (or at least make it harder for them to bot) it still doesn't create a fair gaming experience for those who do play legit, for the reasons I stated above.
