I don't know him in person.  But he's the first and closest GB buddy I've got, outside of my own relatives who play GB.  Last night, I saw him in a password protected room playing 1v1 with an obvious fake account that has a dismal win rate and negative GP.  He's a very good boomer and armour player and so this was quite a surprise.  I hate confrontations...

Keeping in mind this is just a game, and that nobody's getting hurt, and that no laws are broken (except Softnyx's), but that what he's doing is essentially wrong wrong wrong and affects other legit players rank, what do you suggest I do?

Donga

Don't do anything about it, don't worry, i guess softnyx will catch him, he'll hopefully learn from the lesson, and you will still be friends with him.

Drknecro

tell him to stop and why to stop? If he doesnt, pray he doesnt get banned. Thats all.
Aww fuck, now I gotta get 1337 posts for a 2nd time >_<
i think it would have been easier if u set my post to 1338 =/

^This proves that tonks want's my cock 8)

I agree, I would ignore it.  I think at least 3 or 4 people on my buddy list bot.  One for sure.

Once I got angry at one and considered reporting him, but never did.
You should probably be honest and tell him ur opinion of botting even if you do not want to fight with him.  Maybe he will stop.  Unless he is very close to high rank, why bot?  It dun matter who is the best blue or red wand.  If he is already a dragon, you probably would be wasting ur time asking him to stop.

Dissolute

None on my buddylist bot, no ones on enough to be considered a botter...but no dont ignor it you should tell him, say youve noticed it you wont report him etc but to lighten up on it or stop completly as you dont want to lose him as a friend

Zim

I once had a friend who did it. He told me though. I told him to stop or risk being banned, and he was a decent guy so he stopped. (As far as I know)

Shortly after that he quit GB anyway
Is this all scamming has come to?

The Gunbound Newb

tell him its not cool and shrug it off after all he is your bud right?

A good smack and a "wtf are you doing" should do the trick. If not, go with a classical guilt trip of "Fine, Fine, do what you want, at least I'm not the person thats abusing a game that has offered me hours of fun for FREE!!"

U call those ur closest buddy? U got to be more careful in real life when making new friends!

Papercut

Maybe he's practicing shots...?

Eh, I think you should just ignore it. Hope for the positive, he may have made an account to practice his trick shots on. *shug* I don't really know. Maybe you should ask him what's up or something.
IRC is where the magic is at.

GoodLad

Ask him whats goin on.I mean a couple weeks ago I would play some friends that were terrible in 1v1s and spent some hours in there whippin them....So maybe hes playing against some friend of his who is really bad?Anywayz if he IS botting then it will just hurt him.I learned that when I made a new acount to play in the newb zone once and realized how much it really hurts your game.Playing with people who are good at the game is the way to raise your skill. :D

whoa whoa whoa don't you think you sound a little harsh here to jump to conclusions like that?

My opinion, if he is botting, then politely ask him not to (sine he is your friend), if he is testing shots (which may be an excuse too possibly :-/) then you can't really do anything about it... unless he has been testing shots for months and months... then.........

you can't really report him either, because narking your friend out would show you youself aren't as great a friend, so the best thing to do is ask him politely, and distance your self if he is strongly reluctant not to, maybe offer for him to test shots on you???

I agree.  You shouldn't take too aggressive of a stance when you don't know all the facts.  Especially since he's your friend.  Even if he is doing something illicit, I dunno if you wanna report him =x

Wow, I knew somebody would post something idiotic like this sooner or later.  This feels like a flame, a personal attack on me for being a poor judge of character.  What the?

I said he is "my closest GB buddy outside of my relatives who also play GB".  What that means is that I only talk to him while playing GB.  I only interact with him in the context of GB gameplay.  We have lots of fun playing GB together, picking on each other's shots, tk'ing each other accidentally and laughing about it, winning lots of games together a lot, just basically having a blast while playing GB, etc. etc.  When I "talk" to him, all I see is just an ID on my screen.  How the hell would I know what he does on his time away from me?  The Internet is a totally different playground than real life, but you should know that already.

Thanks for all the other replies.  Yes, I do not have all the facts, thanks for pointing that out.  He may be practicing test shots, correct.  I think I'll let this slide because I know he does not cheat when he's on my team.
