It is general knowledge that most shot's explosions are wider than taller.  I was thinking if this also influences damage, and it seems to do so.

In a game, I moved down a slope to SG a boomer next to me (to the right, Trico dont have any other choice :): ), then the boomer lobs his shot on top of Trico and deals me an insane amount of damage.

The same happen to another guy, he was on a slope, a boomer hit on top of him, with thor, and dealt 700 damage (thor lv 1 or 2 cause laser was green).

Same thing for a boomer who hit me with force weather (he was inside force), dealing 800+ damage  .

The patern repeats, guy on a slope, other guy hits on top of him, deals insane damage.

I was thinking you could set up this kind of shots with dual+, shot 1 makes a hole, he lands on slope facing you, shot 2 hits directly on top, doing greater damage.

So I've been testing out dual+ with different bots (aduka, armor, trico :D: ), and trying to do great damage by exposing the target's sweetspot.

Like this:

First frame shows shot 1.
Second frame shows the hole shot 1 makes and the target's new position.
Third frame shows shot 2 impacting on top of the target, but since it's on a slope,  shot 2 lands closer to the sweetspot horizontally, dealing  more damage.

How much more damage? Around 15 to 25 percent.  When I did this with aduka, on the first turn and thor off, I took a look on Thor, it had 187 damage. Aduka's shot 2 with Lv 1 Thor  normally does 150 damage, 25% of that is 37, 150+37=187.

With Trico it is quite easy to get 400 damage with no weather, as long as you get the spin right, keeping in mind that the target drops a tiny bit after shot 1.

With Armor I got 400 damage no weather, and 500 with Thor.

This trick makes Dual+ deal close to the same damage Dual does, WITH LESS DELAY!!!  I find that pretty scary.

Also I usually dont get the chance to use all 3 duals before double death comes, dual+ are way more usable.

mugshot

wow thats some great info.  I think i will go and give it a try.  If its like what u said dual+ would be one of the best items in the game.

Arthropod

I tested it with JD and I didn't do more damage. Infact, I did less =(

Yoyobuae

Sorry but it doesnt work for JD, shot 2 goes thru mobiles, it doesnt work the same.

Arthropod

Dual shot 1 <_<

Your idea will be good for GB : WC, though.

Besides, I've always did more damage by aiming at the face, full power.

el6uapo

Does this make mages even cheaper?
i go by 0mniscience (with a zero) in GB

There's a reason that's my name :)

mugshot

Well i just tested with boomer and i did less damage the first time(around 270  ) i guess i missed to much with shot 1.  But then i did it with thor and did 530 damage.  So i dont really know what to think yet i have to try it some more.  Also did u sg or lob?

mezzaninex

this strategy is almost the only way to hit for trico dual+ at that range, so I have regularly gotten very nice damages.
it makes sense, I usually try to hit in front of rather then the back of mobiles, as I usually overshoot and miss my shot 2.

yay for simple, yet effective strategies :):

I did it lobbing, dont know if SGing works.  I dont think boomer is good for doing this, shot 1 hole is really small, forcing you to miss too much shot 1.  It is still posible but you must land you shot very close and low, so shot 1 still does good damage while making the appropiate hole.  Kinda hard for boomer.

Here's a little list of what mobile are better for this trick.

Mobiles I tested and worked: Trico :D:, Armor and Aduka.
Mobiles that may be good too:  Ice, Mage, Turtle, Asate.
Mobiles that cant or may not be good:  Nak, Bigfoot, Raon, Lightning, JD, Grub.
and Boomer I dont know.

Thor could help to do it, since Thor makes bigger holes, helping shot 1 to move the target, that would explain mugshot 530 damage with boomer :):.  With thor on, maybe even with Dual it could be done, except that shots 2 are usually more sensitive to hitting at a side instead of on top of the target.

It seems Boomer needs little help from Thor to pull it out :D:

The explosion shape also seems to factor in, Thor's explosion is very flat and wide, thus it benefits a lot from this tactic.

Demonchaos77

nice, thanks for the info i usually just hit rite on top  :):

Ice > All

00Sniper

It's strange, since in my experience, when you hit it on the top of the mobile it often does less damage =/

Maybe it's because most of the time its coming in at an oblique angle, this time, its almost perpendicular to the top

Brian Lee is ugly.

Rei

It often works for boomer. I should know.

Yoyobuae

It seems i didnt explain well enought why does hitting on top of the bot does more damage.  So I did a another picture:

In all three cases the shot hits on top of the target, it doesnt matter if the shot hits perpendicular, or sideways.

In frame one you see that the explosion barely touches the sweetspot (marked here with a little cross).

Frame two shows the target on a slope, and you can see that the sweetspot cross is now entirely inside the explosion radius, meaning more damage.

Frame three show an extreme case, and the sweetspot is even further inside the explosion, making damage even higher.

All 3 case have the same explosion size, and hit on top of the target, but the slope the target has can move the sweetspot further inside the explosion radius.

mezzaninex

ooooh.
that makes much more sense now that I have a nice visual :D:

I will keep this in mind, I never thought about using the width of explosions to my advantage that way.

psiKObox

I really have never thought about that! Damn, i cant wait to get home and try this out on Imag. har har
